The beautiful valley of Ilaveezhapoonchira is one of the best places in Kottayam to have a picnic.

People know that the beautiful hills near Kanjar have great hiking trails. The view itself takes your breath away.

From the valley, it is highly recommended to watch both sunrise and sunset because the beautiful scenery opens up in a new and exciting way at those times.

The hike to Ilaveezhapoonchira starts in Kanjar Town, which is in the Idukki District. The hill station and the valley are in the Kottayam District, though.

Visitors can only get to the top by biking, driving a jeep, or hiking up the steep, narrow, unpaved mountain road.

From the top, you can see the whole Malankara Dam and the water in the basin. You can also see the beautiful hill ranges in almost every direction.

From September to January, when the rainy season is over but the dry season is still a few months away, is the best time to visit the hill town.

It's best to leave Kanjar Town either early in the morning or after noon, so you can escape the heat of the sun.
