After being accused of having a conflict of interest, lying, and negotiating arrangements for high-value loans to Indian MNC Videocon, she resigned in 2018.
Chanda received India's highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, in 2011 and was named one of TIME magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" in 2015.
Chanda was born on November 17, 1961, into a Hindu Sindhi family. Her father, Roopchand Advani, was a professor at an engineering college.
Deepak Virendra Kochhar, the founder and CEO of NuPower Renewables Pvt. Ltd., is married to Chanda. Arjun is their son, and Aarti is their daughter.
Chanda has a total net worth of USD 3.3 million. During the 2016–17 financial year, Chanda was paid a total of Rs 7.85 crore.
The CBI arrested Chanda and her husband Deepak on December 23, 2022, because they were thought to be involved in the Videocon-ICICI Bank loan case.
