The Kashmir Files’, ‘Kantara’ Among 5 Indian Oscar Nominations 2023

Whenever a movie represents India on the Oscar platform, it is a huge deal. That’s because the awards mainly focus on Hollywood movies and seldom choose a Bollywood film for nominations. But 2023 is a great year for the country! 5 movies have been selected for Oscar nominations this year and we couldn’t be prouder.

The Indian movies that have made it to the list of Oscar nominations in 2023 are –

• RRR
• The Kashmir Files
• Kantara
• Gangubai Kathiawadi
• Iravin Nizhal

These movies are among 301 feature films that have been decided by the members of the Oscar and they have a chance for final nominations. As per the latest report, there are approximately 9,579 voting members that are eligible to fill out the ballot by 17th January.

Although these movies have entered the list of nominations, it is uncertain that all of them would be a part of the final nomination list. That would be announced on 24th January only. The Oscars Award ceremony would take place on 12th March when the final results would be declared.

All the Indian movies listed above are competing for some major categories like Best Actor and Best Picture. This official news has been released a few weeks after Chhello Show, a Gujarati movie was shortlisted in the category of Best International Film. Apart from that “Naatu Naatu” song from RRR was shortlisted in the category of Best Original Song.

Vivek Agnihotri, the maker of Kashmir Files took to Twitter and said that the movie has been shortlisted for the nominations at 2023 Oscars. He wished the rest of the movies the best of luck and said that the last year was amazing for Indian cinema.

We cannot agree more as all the movies have not only rocked at the box office but have made an international impact.

Director Agnihotri further shared that Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, and Mithun Chakraborty have also been shortlisted for Oscar nominations. They are under the “Best Actor” category. The film collected more than Rs.200 cr. at the box office.

SS Rajamouli, the maker of the Telugu Blockbuster RRR also took to Twitter and thanked all the jury members of the Golden Globes as his movie was nominated for two categories. He also thanked the entire team of the movie and showed his gratitude to the fans and audience.

Kantara, the movie that depicted a fresh story in 2022 has been shortlisted for Best Actor and Best Picture categories. Director and writer Rishab Shetty created this blockbuster that smoothly collected 400 cr. at the worldwide box office.

He also shared his gratitude on Twitter and said that he is overjoyed with the fact that Kantara is in for two nominations at the Oscars. He along with the entire team is looking for the future journey and is overwhelmed by the audience support.

The final nominations would be out soon and we can’t wait to hear the name of Indian movies in them!
