Gayatri Joshi is a former Indian actress, model, and video jockey who worked in the Hindi film industry. During her college days, she worked as a model and appeared in commercials for several leading brands such as Hyundai, Philips, Bombay Dyeing, Pond’s, LG, Godrej, and Sunsilk. Subsequently, Gayatri started her career as a video jockey with Channel V India. In the year 2000, she emerged as the title winner of ‘Femina Miss India’, the national beauty pageant. Gayatri made her entry into acting in 2004 by playing the female lead character in the 2004 film ‘Swades’.

Gayatri Joshi Family
The actress was born on March 20, 1977, to Ramniwas Ji Runthala and Hema Milani. Gayatri also has a sister, Ahana Joshi.
Gayatri Joshi Relationships
Gayatri knew real estate tycoon Vikas Oberoi for a long time. Vikas is the Chairman and Managing Director of Oberoi Realty Ltd. Initially they were just friends and more like acquaintances. Later, they started bumping into each other and Vivek strongly felt that Gayatri was the person with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life. Finally, on August 27, 2005, Gayatri tied the knot with Vivek. The couple is parents to two sons, Vihaan and Yuva.

Gayatri did her initial years of schooling at Mount Carmel High School in Nagpur, her hometown. Later, when her family relocated to Mumbai, the actress joined J. B. Vachha High School and completed her schooling at that institution. Post that, Gayatri enrolled at Sydenham College, Mumbai, and earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce.

On July 16, 2019, Gayatri came to know that somebody had withdrawn Rs.40,000 using her credit card and the withdrawal was done in four unauthorized transactions. On realizing that she was duped, the actress messaged her personal assistant enquiring about her card. Immediately, the assistant went to Gayatri’s house at JVPD Scheme, Juhu, and found that the credit card was kept in the usual place. Subsequently, her assistant filed a police complaint and the cops said that they suspect the case to be that of card cloning.

Gayatri ventured into modeling during her college days. Those days, she appeared in advertisements for renowned brands such as Philips, Bombay Dyeing, Pond’s, LG, Godrej, and Sunsilk. Gayatri was also seen in the Hyundai Santro commercial opposite Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Gayatri’s next stint was as a video jockey with Channel V India. During those times, she hosted the program ‘Junglee Jukebox’. Later, Gayatri left her television career to pursue her dream of winning the Femina Miss India beauty pageant. In 1999, she managed to reach the top 5 in the pageant. The very next year, Gayatri won the ‘Femina Miss India International title and went on to represent India at the Miss International 2000 pageant held in Japan. It was followed by her featuring in music albums such as Jagjit Singh’s song Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti and Hans Raj Hans’s song Zanjaria.
In 2004, Gayatri made her debut in films with ‘Swades’, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. She was cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the film. Though it was her first movie, Gayatri delivered an excellent performance and won several awards such as the Bollywood Movie Awards for Best Female Debut, Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Female, Global Indian Film Awards for Best Newcomer and Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. However, ‘Swades’ happened to be the first and last movie in Gayatri’s career. Post her marriage, the actress decided to quit acting as she wanted to give time to her family.

- Gayatri got the opportunity to act in ‘Swades’ after the film’s director Ashutosh Gowariker noticed her at a party. However, the actress auditioned three times before being selected for that role.
- During the time of the Coronavirus outbreak in 2020, Gayatri’s painter son Vihaan decided to donate the proceeds of the sale of 50 of his paintings to the organization ‘Teach For India’. It is a non-profit organization that worked towards supporting the children and their families adversely affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.
