Uttara Baokar, A National Award-winning Actress, Has Died at The Age Of 79

It was confirmed on the 11th of April that Uttara Baokar has died at the age of 79. She was in Pune, Maharashtra at the time and the last rites were done on Wednesday morning. The sources that were close to her family informed her that the death of the reason was her long-going illness.

Uttara was suffering for a year and took her last breath last Tuesday at the hospital. According to a reporter, the cause of death was cancer. The actress would be missed and the industry is expressing its condolences to the family.

Uttara Baokar was a veteran TV and movie actress who rose to fame with Tamas, a movie by Govind Nihlani. The actress had also showcased her talent in several feature films by Sumitra Bhave. The graceful TV actress will also be remembered as the naughty grandmom of Mona Singh in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi – Bebe.

Various co-stars and celebrities are coming ahead to express their sadness. One of them is Sunil Sukthankar for whom Uttara Baokar had worked in eight feature movies. The filmmaker who put her in strong female roles said that Uttara played several roles throughout her career and she was always disciplined.

Whenever she used to be on the set of a movie, there was a no-nonsense attitude in her. Sunil also talked to the reporters and said that Uttara Baokar trained with Ibrahim Alkazi; a theatre director and her talent got her movies like Vastupurush, Doghim, and Sanwad.

Manoj Joshi also came forward to talk about Uttara and said that what happened is an irreparable loss and the entire Indian movie industry is feeling it right now. Everyone is in pain. The actor ended his note with Om Shanti.

Remembering the supremely talented actress of the Indian film industry, Neena Kulkarni said that Uttara was a commendable person and was a true example of humility and dignity. The two had worked in Shevri and Uttarayan together. Neena Ji shared the duo’s pictures on her Twitter.

Another person who penned a note for Uttara is Vani Tripathi; a famous activist and author. He said that Uttara’s demise is extremely sad news as she was a true path-breaking actress. Uttara was the one who took Ibrahim Alkazi’s theatre legacy to a new level. She will be etched in everyone’s hearts forever.

Uttara received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her performance and was a pass-out from the National School of Drama. Although most of us remember Uttara Boakar for her role as Bebe in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi, she has showcased her talent in several theatre acts and Marathi movies.

Uttara portrayed an arrogant and revengeful wife of a zamindar in Sardari Begum; a musical drama directed by Shyam Benegal. She also portrayed the role of a depressed mother in Ek Din Achanak and was extremely convincing. There are so many roles for which the beautiful actress would be remembered.
