Vishnu Vinod is an Indian cricket player who represents the state of Kerala in domestic cricket. In the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Vishnu is playing for the franchise Mumbai Indians. The cricketer was also part of the India A squad at the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy.
A wicket-keeper-batsman and an occasional medium pacer, Vishnu holds the record of becoming the first concussion substitute in the history of IPL. The cricketer is quite active on social media platforms with 62,900 people following him on Instagram.

Vishnu Vinod Family
Vishnu was born on 2 December 1993. Though the cricketer was raised in Perunad of Pathanamthitta district, he later shifted to his current place Thiruvalla, for cricket practice.
There was a distance of 60 Km from Vishnu’s birthplace Perunad to the place where Vishnu was undergoing training. During that time, Vishnu’s family went through a financial crisis and had to sell their house.
Hence, Vishnu suggested relocating to Tiruvalla so that it becomes easy for him to attend practice sessions.
In the initial stage of Vishnu’s career, his mother used to be very supportive and she was the one who took care of expenses related to cricket coaching. The names of Vishnu’s parents are not available in public sources.

During his childhood days, Vishnu used to play cricket along with his friends in the neighborhood. In the initial days, he started with a rubber ball and later switched to a tennis ball.
Once Vishnu saw a newspaper advertisement inviting interested candidates for cricket selection trials. Though he went along with his friend Praveen for the trials, both of them failed to clear the selection trial.
Later Vishnu joined PNCC, a cricket club in Pathanamthitta. Subsequently, he got an opportunity to play in the Pathanamthitta district league. A stellar performance in the league earned Vishnu a place in the district team.
Though he belonged to the Under-16 category, Vishnu started playing in the Under-19 category with senior players. Later, in the same year, the cricketer played in the Under-16 team and also got picked for the Kerala Cricket Association’s zonal match.s
On 3rd April 2014, Vishnu made his Twenty20 debut against Karnataka at the 2014-15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the same year, on 10th November, the cricketer made his List A debut against Hyderabad in the 2014-15 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Eventually, Vishnu got an entry into the Under-23 team and while the tournament was going on, he got a call for Kerala’s Ranji trophy team. In his debut match against Haryana, the cricketer managed to score a half-century.
At the 2017 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament that was held in Chennai, Vishnu emerged as the 2nd highest run-scorer in the tournament. Later, in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, he went on to score his debut first-class century against Madhya Pradesh with a brilliant knock of 193 runs off 282 balls and remained not out.
Vishnu‘s other major achievement was becoming the top run scorer for Kerala at the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In just 8 matches, he managed to score a mammoth 508 runs with an average of 63.50.
At the 2017 Indian Premier League, Vishnu was signed by the franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though he played 3 matches in the season, he wasn’t selected for the next season. For the next three IPL seasons, Vishnu remained unsold.
Later, at the 2021 IPL, the cricketer was bought by Delhi Capitals. However, he was benched for the whole season and was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2022 IPL. Currently, Vishnu plays for Mumbai Indians at the 2023 IPL.

- To date, Vishnu never had any coaches in cricket. However, Mr. Joji John, the Pathanamthitta district secretary, helped him in cricket by getting the cricketing gear or feeding him the ball during practice sessions. Even today whenever Vishnu needs any help or feels like speaking to someone before a match, Joji is the one he reaches out to.
- While Vishnu was part of the Pathanamthitta district team, some of his co-players were already playing for the state team. Their white jerseys with Kerala Cricket Association’s logo printed on it acted as a motivation for Vishnu and he was desperate to represent the state team.
- When Vishnu got picked for the RCB team in IPL, he shared the dressing room with players such as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle. While narrating the experience, Vishnu says that the feeling was incredible as till that moment he had seen all those cricketing legends only on television.
- Tinu Yohannan, the former Indian cricketer and the current coach of the Kerala state team says that at first glance he saw Vishnu, and he identified the extraordinary talent in him. In Tinu’s opinion, despite limited cricketing facilities in Pathanamthitta, Vishnu made it to the IPL only because of his talent.
- Vishnu’s favorite in cricket is AB de Villiers and since their childhood, he used to practice reverse sweeps, scoops, and similar shots.
- Though Vishnu always wanted to be an opening batsman in the state team, coach Tinu suggested he play in the middle order. Tinu says that he is someone who can finish the game for them.
