Kollam Sudhi: Facts About The Man Who Made Us Laugh!

Kollam Sudhi was an Indian actor who worked in Malayalam television programs and movies. Best known for his comedy roles and mimicry performances, Sudhi started his career as a stage artist.

Later, Kollam Sudhi became a household name after being part of ‘Comedy Festival’, a program aired on the channel Mazavil Manorama. Eventually, Sudhi went on to act in several hit television programs such as Star Magic in Flowers channel and movies such as Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan, Kuttanadan Marpappa, and Theetta Rappai.

On 5th June 2023, Sudhi passed away following a car accident that happened in the wee hours at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur.

Sudhi was born on 1st January 1984 in Kochi. He was born to Shivadasan who worked with Cohin Corporation as Revenue Inspector and Gomathi.

Later, Sudhi’s family relocated from Kochi to Kollam. The actor also had an elder brother, sister, and younger brother Subhash who passed away.

Relationships

Sudhi was in a relationship with a lady, whose name is not available in public sources. Later, the actor married that person and the couple also had a baby boy, Rahul. However, that relationship did not last for long.

Sudhi’s wife had an extramarital relationship with another person and she left the actor to lead a life with her lover. In 2020, she committed suicide following issues in her marital life.

Later, Sudhi had a second marriage with Renu who hails from Kottayam. The couple also have a son, Rithu.

Education

Sudhi did his schooling at Government Boys High School in Valathungal, Kollam. Later, he joined Kerala University for his further studies.

In his early days, Sudhi used to sing really well. At school, he emerged as a state winner in singing. Later, when he was around 16 years old, Sudhi ventured into mimicry.

In the initial days of mimicry, he used to perform in the troupes of artists such as Mundakkal Vinod, Shobi Thilakan, Raja Sahib, and Shammi Thilakan. Sudhi started by mimicking actor Suresh Gopi and later started imitating comedian Jagadeesh which turned out to be a massive hit.

Sudhi got a break in his career after attending ‘Laughter Kerala’, a contest conducted by the channel Asianet Plus. When the results were announced, he won the title of ‘Best Comedian’ in that program. Eventually, Sudhi became part of the ‘Comedy Stars program aired on Asianet.

With the turn of events, Sudhi was roped in by Saju Navodaya for the program ‘Comedy Festival’ aired on Mazhavil Manorama. It proved to be the turning point in his life. Subsequently, in 2015, Sudhi acted in his debut movie ‘Kanthari’.

It was followed by several hit movies such as ‘Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan’, ‘Theetta Rappai’, ‘Kuttanadan Marpappa’, ‘Vakathirivu’, ‘An International Local Story’, ‘Escape’, ‘Kesu Eee Veedinte Nathan’, ‘Swargathile Katturumbu’, etc. In his film career, Sudhi went on to act in more than 40 movies.

On television, Sudhi rose to fame after featuring in ‘Star Magic, a program telecast on Flowers TV. He along with his co-artists such as Binu Adimali and Ullas used to perform several skits that turned out to be a favorite among the television-watching audience.

Kollam Sudhi Cause Of Death

After attending a program in Vadakara, Sudhi was on his way back to Thiruvananthapuram. The actor was seated in the front seat and his co-passengers in the car included ‘Star Magic’ artists Ullas Aroor, Binu Adimali, and Mahesh.

It was early morning 4:30 am and the vehicle in which Sudhi travelled collided with a pickup van at Kaipamangalam in Thrissur district. Following the accident, Sudhi met with a fatal head injury and as per the police report, it was a head-on collision.

One of the onlookers who were present at the accident spot later said to the media that Sudhi’s face was full of blood and the car’s airbag had to be cut to take his body out. Though the actor was taken to AR Hospital in Kodungallur, the medical team could not save his life and soon Sudhi breathed his last.

Lesser Known Facts About Kollam Sudhi

• Once, in an interview, Sudhi recalled the struggles he went through during the initial days of stage performances. There were even times when people threw slippers, eggs, and sand at him.

• When Sudhi’s first wife ditched him and went away with another person, their son was just one and a half years old. During stage performances, Sudhi used to make the little baby put to sleep backstage. While recollecting those days, Sudhi said that while performing on stage he was quite tense, thinking about his son.

• Sudhi’s son Rahul was born out of the actor’s marital life with his first wife. However, Renu, Sudhi’s second wife considers him as his own son and addresses him as ‘Vaavakkuttan’.

• Azeez Nedumangad, Sudhi’s co-artist once recollected an incident where he and Sudhi didn’t have enough money to travel by bus. After participating in a show, they both were on the way back from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam.  Since there was no other option left, they boarded a lorry transporting old tires. According to Azeez, he still remembers Sudhi holding his kid and traveling in the lorry.

• Sudhi was staying in a rented house in 2020. Back then, he had said that it was his dream to have a house of his own. For the last one and a half years, the actor was staying at his wife’s house at Njaliyankuzhi in Kottayam.

• In his last stage show which was held a few hours before his death, Sudhi said that since the time Flowers channel was launched, he has never worked in any other television channels and will not do that in the future as well.
