Prashasti Singh: The Journey To Comedy Excellence!
Prashasti Singh is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, improviser, and actor. An IIM graduate turned comedienne, Prashasti made her debut with Comicstaan – a stand-up comedy show aired on Amazon Prime, and emerged as the 2nd runner-up.
Later, Prashasti Singh hosted the segment ‘Bath Cheat’ in the show Kiski Sarkar streamed on MX Player and also appeared in Ladies Up – a stand-up comedy series aired on Netflix. Prashasti has a massive fan following on social media platforms with 2,06,000 followers on Instagram and 88,000 followers on YouTube.

Prashasti Singh Family
Prashasti Singh’s father passed away long back following a heart attack. However, his name is not available in public sources. The comedienne’s mother’s name is Bharti and she also has a brother Samyak Singh who works as a singer and songwriter.
Relationship
During Prashasti Singh’s college days in Delhi, Prashasti met a person and it eventually blossomed into a relationship. He was an IIT graduate working in London and their relationship became a long-distance one. Prashasti had dreamt of marrying that person and moving with him to London after their wedding.
However, there was an unexpected turn of events as Prashasti’s father passed away suddenly. Also, her family was unaware of their finances. At that time, Prashasti got admission to IIM Lucknow and she moved back to her hometown.
During that period, Prashasti realized that she had been dependent on someone, either her father or boyfriend.
The same feeling crept into the relationship between Prashasti and her boyfriend, things didn’t go smoothly and eventually, they broke up. According to Prashastii, though she cried for 3 months, her college studies kept her busy.
Education
In 2004, Prashasti Singh completed her schooling at Delhi Public School R.K. Puram in New Delhi. The following year, she joined Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology for Engineering in Electronics and Communication and completed the course in 2009.
Later, in 2012, Prashasti got admission to the coveted Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow for PGDM in Marketing Management and passed out in 2014.
Controversies
On 31st December 2019, Prashasti posted a photograph on Instagram where she is seen posing along with Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra. In the picture, Siddharth was clad in a formal black suit, white shirt, and black bow tie. Prasiddhi, in her caption, included the hashtag ‘waiters’ taking a dig at the attire worn by Siddharth that resembles that of a waiter.
Prashasti’s social media post stirred controversy as Sidharth’s fans lambasted her with harsh comments. Some of them opined that she was not only making fun of Sidharth but also the waiter professionals whereas others commented that Prashasti should be ashamed of herself and that she doesn’t know the difference between being funny and disrespectful.

In 2009, after completing her engineering course, Prashasti joined Deloitte Consulting as a Business Technology Analyst. After working there for a year, she subsequently joined Dell’s Bengaluru office as an Analyst.
In 2012 Prashasti quit her job at Dell. Later, after completing her management studies, in 2014, Prashasti joined Star India’s Mumbai office as Assistant Manager – Marketing. She was later promoted to the role of Category Head at Star India.
During that period, Prashasti took up stand-up comedy as a part-time job. For 8 months, she juggled between her corporate job and stand-up comedy. In 2018 Prashasti got a chance to participate as a contestant in the first season of Comicstaan, a stand-up comedy competition created for Amazon Prime Video.
The grand finale of the program was released on 17 August 2018 and when the results were announced, Prashasti managed to win the 2nd runner-up position.
With the turn of events, Prashasti realized that she could earn a decent income from stand-up comedy. Finally, she took a decision to quit her corporate job in order to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, an area she was quite passionate about. Thus, after serving Star India for 4 years, Prashasti resigned from the organization in September 2018.
Later, Prashasti appeared in the role of host in the show Kiski Sarkar streamed on MX Player. It was for the segment ‘Bath Cheat’ in the show.
In 2020 March, Prashasti appeared in Ladies Up, a comedy special launched by Netflix. In the show, she was featured along with leading stand-up comedians such as Supriya Joshi, Niveditha Prakasam, and Kaneez Surkha.

- Prashasti was brought up in a small town and she was always inclined towards studies.
- Prashasti has a lot of friends in Hyderabad. Whenever she comes to the city, the stand-up comedian makes sure that she meets up with all of them. According to Prashasti, Biryani is the favorite dish of all of them.
- Prashasti says that her natural language is Hindi. However, the stand-up comedian adds that during her engineering and MBA days, she was taught to discard Hindi. Thus, she was told to speak in English, a language in which she doesn’t think.
- In 2021, Prashasti’s mother was hospitalized after she tested positive for Covid-19. Later, the stand-up comedian shared a thought-provoking post on Instagram describing the poor state of affairs at a Lucknow hospital caused due to shortage of Oxygen. She also mentioned that her mother was worried about her insurance nominations.
- Prashasti says that she doesn’t feel offended when someone addresses her as a ‘female comedian’. According to her, it’s a problem with the culture that gender is prefixed before art. She also said that in many other industries, nobody addresses a professional as a female strategist or female marketeer, or female software engineer.
- Prashanthi opines that the nature of comedy is such that at open mikes and trial gigs, if you write 10 jokes, six or seven will not work and that is the process of joke writing.
