Tanishk Bagchi is an Indian music composer, producer, lyricist, and singer who works primarily in Hindi films. He made his debut in 2015 with the song ‘Banno’ from the film Tanu Weds Manu Returns which turned out to be a chartbuster.

It was followed by several hit songs such as ‘Baarishein’ from Half Girlfriend and ‘Bolna’ from Kapoor and Sons. Apart from Hindi, Tanisk has also composed music for Tamil and Telugu films.

The composer is a recipient of several prestigious awards such as the Filmfare Awards and International Indian Film Academy Awards.

Tanishk Bagchi Family

Tanishk was born on born 23 November 1980 and hails from a Brahmin family. His great-grandfather was a musician and a Kirtan artist.

Tanishk’s father Nandakumar Bagchi who is a musician, later shifted to Calcutta. Tanishk’s mother Sharmistha Das, a Punjabi is also a musician. He also has a younger sister.

Tanishk is married to Genevieve Baagchi Dmello and the couple is having two children.

Education

Tanishk did his schooling at Frank Anthony Public School. Later, he enrolled at Scottish Church College and completed his graduation in science.

Controversies

It was Tanishk who recreated the Masakali song, originally composed by music maestro AR Rahman for the film ‘Delhi 6’. However, Rahman was not happy with Masakali 2.0 and expressed his displeasure on social media platforms.

On April 8th, 2020, he tweeted that it takes more than 200 musicians and 365 days of creative brainstorming to come up with music that can last generations. Rahman also took potshots on Instagram by posting that the strongest man is he who is able to control his anger.

Tanishk learned music in Kolkata in his early days. In order to earn a living, he later came to Mumbai. During those days, Tanishk struggled a lot and approached many leading personalities in the industry, but got rejected. Slowly, he started making his own songs, writing lyrics by himself.

In 2007, Tanishk released his Bengali-language album ‘City Life’. Later, in 2014, he worked as a music producer alongside Aditya Dev for the track “Meherbani” in the film “The Shaukeens”. The following year, Tanishk got a major break in his career with the song “ “Banno” from Tanu Weds Manu Returns which became quite popular. Subsequently, he delivered back-to-back hit songs such as “Samandar” from Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon and “Bolna” from Kapoor & Sons.

Tanishk’s first remix song was ‘Humma Humma’, from the 2017 film Ok Jaanu. Though, it didn’t find favor with the audience initially, later the song hit 200 million views on YouTube. In the same year, Tanishk came up with recreations of several hit songs such as Tamma Tamma, Mere Rashke Qamar, and Cheez Badi.

In 2017, Tanishk turned lyricist with the song “Twist Kamariya” from the film Bareilly Ki Barfi. In 2019, at the 65th Filmfare Awards, he was nominated as the best lyricist for the song Ve Maahi from the movie Kesari.

Tanishk made his debut in Telugu in 2018 with the song “Adbhutam” from the film Lover. His other songs in Telugu include “Psycho Saiyaan”, “Illegal Weapon 2.0” and “Aafat”. In 2019, Tanishk entered the Tamil film industry with the songs “Kadhal Psycho” and “Muqabla Tamil” from the film Saaho. It was followed by tracks such as “Illegal Weapon 2.0”, “Unnoda Kangal” and “Aafat”.

Tanishk has released many albums such as Ungli Pungli, Ungli Pungli-2, Leja Re, and Vaaste. He was also part of music videos such as Khud Se Zyada and Patli Kamariya.

Tanishk says that recreating a song is not easy. According to the composer, recreating a song is as good as constructing a new building.

Tanishk says that he doesn’t have time to check social media or look into negative comments as he is always busy with his work. Once he gets a song, he creates it and then moves on to the next project.
