Ajinkya Rahane Education

Ajinkya completed his Secondary School Certificate from SV Joshi High School in Dombivli. Later he enrolled for his undergraduate studies in commerce.

Controversies

In February 2022, Ajinkya made a controversial statement while speaking on ‘Backstage with Boria’. In the interview, the cricketer revealed that someone else took credit for his decisions during India’s 2020-21 tour of Australia.

In the absence of skipper Virat Kohli, Ajinkya led from the front, scored a brilliant century, and helped the nation win the second match held at the Melbourne cricket ground by a margin of 8 wickets.

After the match, India’s then-fielding coach R Sridhar gave full credit to the head coach Ravi Shastri for the team’s emphatic win. Apparently, after the team’s earlier debacle at Adelaide where they were bowled out for a measly 36,  Ravi told the team to wear the 36 like a badge on their sleeves and they will turn out to be a great team.

He also gave credit to Virat for playing a pivotal role in the backstage planning before the match.

While referring to the incident, Ajinkya later said in the interview that he knew what he has done there and he didn’t have to tell anybody else.

The cricketer also added that it was laughable the way some people claimed that they had taken certain calls. Ajinkya concluded by stating that he doesn’t praise himself and knew from the inside that those were his calls.

Ajinkya Rahane Profession

When Ajinkya was 7 years of age, his father took him to a small coaching camp with a matting wicket at Dombivli. Due to their poor financial condition, his parents went out of their way to buy him a cricket kit.

In his early days, Ajinkya’s mother used to take him for cricket training. Since they couldn’t afford to hire an autorickshaw, his mother used to walk 6 to 8 Km one way holding his kit bag in one hand and his younger brother in the other. Ajinkya recollected in an interview that they used to go by auto only once a week.

Later, when the cricketer turned 17, he enrolled in cricket coaching classes under Pravin Amre, the former Indian international cricketer.

In early 2007, he got picked for India U-19 teams’ tour of New Zealand and the youngster delivered an incredible performance with two centuries. In March 2007, Ajinkya made his List A debut for Mumbai by playing against Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the same year, in September, the cricketer made his first-class debut by playing against Karachi Urban in the Mohammad Nissar Trophy.

In T20Is, Ajinkya played his first match against England at Manchester in August 2011. The very next month, i.e. on 3 September, the cricketer began his ODI career in a match against England. Two years later, on 22 March 2013, the cricketer played his debut test match against Australia at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In IPL, apart from his current stint at CSK,  Ajinkya has been part of several teams such as Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals,  Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Ajinkya’s major achievements include captaining the Indian team and winning the 2020-21 Border–Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. In September 2016, the cricketer was conferred with the Arjuna Award for his significant contribution to cricket.
