Anuradha Mukherjee is an Indian actress who acts in Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali movies. A model turned actress, Anuradha started her career in films as an assistant director. In 2017, she ventured into acting with the Marathi film ‘Janiva’, directed by Rajesh Ranshinge.

Later, Anuradha appeared in several Hindi and Bengali films such as Sweater, Halahal, and Niharika: In the Mist. The actress is quite popular on social media platforms with 45,700 followers on Instagram and 18,000 followers on Facebook.

Controversies

In 2020, Anuradha became the victim of cyber attacks against Bengali women. It was in connection with Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death as Bengali actress Rhea Chakraborty was alleged to be involved in the actor’s murder.

It sparked debate when Anuradha said on social media that just because Bengali ladies worship Ma Kali doesn’t mean that every Bengali female practices black magic.

Following Anuradha’s post, Abhishek K Singh, a Facebook user trolled the actress brutally. He compared Anuradha to Rhea Chakraborty and even wrote that they are also gold diggers and practitioners of black magic. While responding to Abhishek’s post, Anuradha mentioned that one cannot bully or blame a whole community for nothing. 

The actress later said in an interview that she will be sending a letter to the West Bengal Women’s Commission. Anuradha also added that she might file a complaint with the cyber cell as well.

In the initial days of her career, Anuradha did not have any plans of becoming an actress. Thus, she started her career as an assistant director and slowly realized that she should focus on acting. Thus, Anuradha acted in ‘Kache Aye Shoi’, a Bengali television serial aired on the channel Zee Bangla. 

Anuradha forayed into films in 2015 with the Rajesh Ranshinge-directed Marathi film ‘Janiva’. She was cast opposite Mahesh Manjrekar’s son Satya in the movie. In 2016, the actress made her debut in Bollywood with ‘Days of Tafree’ and she portrayed the role of Isha in the movie.

It was followed by ‘Panchlait’ in 2017, a film directed by Prem Prakash Modi. Anuradha acted in the Bengali film ‘Sweater’ in 2019 and she appeared as the character of Sree in the movie. 

In the following years, Anuradha acted in several films such as Guldasta, Golper Mayajal, Halahal, Book of Azrael – a show on OTT, Halahal, Hanak, and Dilkush. The latest film from the actress is ‘Niharika: In the Mist’ released in 2023. It was screened at the 27th International Film  Festival of Kerala held in 2022 and Anuradha played the lead role of Deepa in the film.

  • Anuradha was asked in an interview whether a gender gap exists in remuneration in the entertainment industry. She said ‘yes’ and opined that when compared to the amount of effort they put in, women’s remuneration is less. However, the actress said that it is getting better nowadays. 
  • Anuradha loves cotton sarees and dresses and the actress always prefers casual wear. Her all-time favorite color is white.
  • According to Anuradha, it is just not possible to make friends in the film industry. She also added that there is intense competition in the field.
  • The actress says that she was a pampered child. Though she belongs to a conservative family, Anuradha’s dad never imposed any restrictions on her.
