Deepak Chahar: Unknown Facts About Indian Cricketer!
Deepak Lokendrasingh Chahar known as Deepak Chahar is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the country in both One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) formats. A right-arm medium-pace swing bowler, Deepak represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
In 2019, he achieved the distinction of becoming the first Indian male cricketer to take a hat-trick in a T20I match. He is also a recipient of the T20I Performance of the Year award instituted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his brilliant performance of taking six wickets for seven runs in the match against Bangladesh.

Family
Deepak Chahar was born on 7 August 1992 and his family originally hails from Agra. However, since Deepak’s father Lokendra Singh Chahar was working with the Indian Air Force, their family settled in Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Lokendra has now retired from the service and Deepak’s mother Pushpa Chahar is a housewife. Deepak also has an elder sister who is an actress in the Hindi film industry.
Relationship
At an IPL match held in 2021, Deepak Chahar met Jaya Bharadwaj for the first time. Jaya is from Delhi and she is the sister of former Bigg Boss contestant Sidharth Bhardwaj. Soon, Deepak and Jaya became close friends and later the couple fell in love with each other.
At the IPL 2021, Deepak proposed to Jaya after CSK’s match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The cricketer also shared a video on his Instagram account where he is seen kneeling down and proposing to his girlfriend. On June 1st, 2022, Deepak Chahar tied the knot with Jaya at a hotel in Agra.
Education
Deepak was unable to attend regular school after the eighth standard as he was undergoing rigorous cricket coaching sessions. In spite of time constraints, he later completed graduation also. The name of the school at which Deepak did his initial days of study is not available in the public domain.
Controversies
On 12th July 2021, former Indian international cricketer Venkatesh Prasad posted a controversial tweet regarding Deepak and former Australian cricketer Greg Chappel. As per the tweet, Deepak Chahar was once rejected by Greg, the former Indian cricket coach when the young cricketer was trying to get an entry into the Rajasthan Cricket Association.
The reason cited for Deepak’s rejection was his height and Greg also told him to look for a different occupation. However, later in his career, Deepak went on to win a match single-handedly for India. Prasad concludes his tweet by stating that it is important to believe in oneself and there is no need to take overseas coaches too seriously.
Profession
When Deepak was 12 years of age, it was his father Lokendra who first identified the cricketing talent in his son. Back then, the young boy had a few natural qualities and this made Lokendra realize that his son had potential in him. Thus, Lokendra quit his job at the Indian Air Force, and out of his savings, he built two pitches, a turf, and concrete so that his son could get trained on those pitches. In the initial days, it was Virendra who used to train Deepak.
At the age of 18, Deepak Chahar played his debut first-class cricket match for Rajasthan against Hyderabad at the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy. An incredible performance, Deepak took eight wickets in the match by conceding just 10 runs. It paved the way for the cricketer to secure a berth with Rising Pune Supergiants, a franchise of the Indian Premier League. Later, at the 2018 IPL auction, Deepak was bought by Chennai Super Kings. In the same year, in October, the cricketer was selected for the India B squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.
In May 2018, Deepak Chahar made his foray into international cricket, when he was picked for India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the tour of England. On 8 July 2018, he made his T20I debut and also bagged a wicket. Following that, in September 2018, Deepak made his One Day International debut against Afghanistan at the 2018 Asia Cup.
In the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, Deepak took six wickets by conceding just seven runs in 3.2 overs and created a new record for the best bowling figures in a men’s T20I.
Lesser Known Facts About Deepak Chahar
- Deepak’s father Lokendra also nursed the ambition of becoming a cricketer. However, his father didn’t allow his son to pursue his dream. Thus Lokendra wanted Deepak to realize his dream of becoming a cricketer.
- According to Deepak, if one wants to enjoy a cricket match, then one should come to Chennai and watch CSK play at home. He also added that the atmosphere is very different.
- The cricketer, along with his wife Jaya formed a sports tech venture JCDC Sports, and they launched TFG (Trade Fantasy Game), a fantasy sports gaming platform.
- When Deepak achieved the proud feat of 8 wicket haul in the Ranji trophy by conceding just 10 runs, an elated Deepak’s father said that his son must have bowled at least one lakh deliveries before delivering this performance.
- Deepak revealed in an interview that in the first meeting with Jaya, he realized they share a common opinion on matters such as food and judging other people.
- Deepak and his wife thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie RRR.
- At the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament, Deepak was ruled out due to an injury. In 2023, while speaking in an interview, the cricketer said that for a fast bowler, it’s a tough task to come back from injury. He also expressed hope that he won’t have to deal with it again and play the entire season and year free of injuries.
- Jaya says that Deepak likes Thai food whereas she likes Japanese food. Egg whites and Dal chawal is one food that both of them like.
