Profession
When Arshad was nine years of age, he used to play cricket with children who were much older than him. During those days, the boy hit massive sixes against the seniors. Arshad’s father Ashfaq, who was then working as a cricket coach with the Seoni District Cricket Association was the first to identify his son’s cricketing talent. As Arshad delivered some quite professional shots, Ashfaq made up his mind that his son should pursue the sport of cricket. Thus, Ashfaq took the boy to cricketing coach Abdul Kalam Khan. After making Arshad attend a few trials, Kalam got to know that the boy is quite special.
At the age of 11, Mohammad Arshad Khan made his way to the state Under-14 team. In his early days, Arshad was a specialist left-handed batter. Later, during a match against the Hoshangabad division, the Jabalpur bowling was ineffective. Thus, coach Kalam discussed the matter with Jabalpur division secretary Dharmesh Patel and the young Arshad was handed over the new ball. It proved to be the turning point in Arshad’s cricketing career as he was pretty natural with both inswing and outswing and the young boy took the game to another level.
The first instance when Arshad Khan grabbed everyone’s attention was when he emerged as the top wicket-taker at the Under-25 CK Nayudu Trophy in the 2019-20 season. The cricketer, apart from taking 36 wickets also scored 400 runs. Some of the incredible performances from Arshad included a 134 against Assam – and a quick 86 of just 54 balls, that consisted of five sixes and nine fours, against Mumbai which took Madhya Pradesh from 112 for 7 to a decent total of 229.
At the 2022 IPL mega auction, Mumbai Indians bought Arshad for a base price of Rs.20 lakhs. Unfortunately, the cricketer met with an injury and missed that season. With a heavy heart, Arshad Khan went back to his hometown and started delivering cricket training for children at Seoni free of cost. However, luck was in his favor, and at the 2023 IPL, Arshad was again picked for the Mumbai Indians squad. On 2nd April 2023, Arshad made his debut at IPL by playing against Royal Challengers, Bangalore. In the match, he scored an unbeaten 15 with a strike rate of 166.66.
