Located in the southwestern region of India, Kerala is a place known for its biodiversity and greenery. The state possesses lush greenery with vibrant species of wildlife along with beautiful landscapes which are protected and preserved through its National Parks situated in every region of the state. In this article, we listed some best national parks in Kerala to visit with families and friends.

National Parks in Kerala is one of the largest in south India and rich in making a home for endangered species and popular wild animals like Elephant, Tiger, and Leopard they’re also accompanied by several species of Birds including migratory birds which settle in these parks at specific months or seasons. The variety of flora and fauna makes it a perfect destination for Nature lovers, bird watchers, sign seekers also for people who wants to enjoy the beauty of the landscapes.

Periyar National Park

The Periyar National Park is situated in the western Ghats and is one of the most famous parks. The biodiversity includes a large number of wild elephants, tigers, leopards, and much more. Several bird species are also seen making most of the national parks in Kerala the perfect place for Bird watching and the beauty is more than enough for sightseeing.

Silent Valley National Park

Anamudi Shola National Park

Anamudi is located in the Idukki district of Kerala and the National Park is situated at a high altitude from sea level. Idukki is a place that identifies itself with a cool climate and beautiful mountains.

The Shola forest is known for its high altitude with several species of birds and insects mainly butterflies, moths, etc. Nature lovers can have a walk and the site is favorable for Bird-watching tours, trekking, and much more

Eravikulam National Park

Eravikulam Park is luckily located in the Western Ghats making it highly favorable for visiting due to its surrounding mountains and the beautiful view it offers us. The park is a vast expanse of grasslands and is populated with endangered Nilgiris Tahr. Visitors by foot can explore the park while enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.

Close to Idukki in the district, Kottayam lies the Mathikettan Shola National Park. Known for its diverse wildlife it’s okay for its visitors to go on Jungle treks, watch birds or have casual nature walks and explore the parks at one’s own pace.

Pampadum Shola National Park

Another national park located in the Idukki district itself is Pampadum Shola Park. The name is given due to the shola grassland ecosystem which is seen and covers the park throughout. The park is a better option for Birdwatching, the park also has a beautiful variety of species of butterflies, caterpillars, and moths as well.

Best time to visit these places 

Although it depends on your choice the best or recommended time to visit the national parks in Kerala might differ from place to place depending on the climatical changes. The winter months are regarded as the best time to visit which starts in November and ends approximately in February.

The weather is dry and comfortable for its visitors. It’s advisable to check the conditions of several parks and especially the one you’re planning to go to before planning the trip. Some parks are great places to visit during the Monsoon period ranging from June to September. It’s also important to note that a few national parks might have restricted access during certain months, Like the breeding period of several animals so make sure you contact the park authorities.

By Road: Hiring a taxi car or motorcycle is possible or rent-a-vehicle is the best way to reach by road. The roads leading to these parks are well-maintained and offer stunning views of the landscapes on the journey. There are several bus services through these routes and taxis that go long distances. These connect major cities and towns in Kerala from there options like Rail or Air can be chosen based on your convenience 

In conclusion, Kerala is a place of Natural beauty and heritage, especially with the parks situated throughout the state. From Hills, Rivers, to forests Kerala has it all. A visit here would be a great experience or a once-in-a-lifetime experience for non-natives and people living outside.

Kerala is only one of the few places that’s worth all of the time effort and expense which you invested to have a great journey.
