Peermade is a beautiful hill station in the Idukki district of Kerala. Also better known as Peermedu, it is one of the least-explored hill stations in Kerala, and among the most popular places to visit in Thekkady. Monkeys and Bison can be witnesses in the area along with a host of other rare fauna.

The hill station is enclosed by lush green tea plantations. It also has broad varieties of massive plants, tea plantations, cardamom plantations, and pine trees. There are other adventures happening here: deciding either to be a spectator or a participant, enjoy of being there is uncontainable.

The location was meant as a summer retreat for the royal of Travancore family and now is a traveler’s insight worth a visit. This massive palace, where the Maharajas of Travancore used to spend their summers, is set amidst lush greenery.

Amritha Medu

Kurisumala, readily as Amrithamedu- the beautiful hill of the Cross- is a protruding pilgrimage and trekking track along the Western Ghats. Situated within the Kuttikkanam region of the Idukki district, Amrithamedu is the highest point around the region. As part of Easter festivities, pilgrims climb the ‘Station of the Cross, which directs them to cover 14 points, each with a cross corresponding to the dissimilar chapters of the last journey of Jesus Christ.

In addition, individuals from several places in the country visit this location precisely during Good Friday. They climb the beautiful hill by holding wooden crosses and taking the sanctifications of the almighty. The trek proposes scenes of tea estates and the rolling Kokkad Hills in the distance. By the time one arrives at the 9th cross, one stands on a ridge that is swathed in mist and it is fairly a sight.

Pattumala

Pattumala accurately means hill swathed in silk. This attractive region in Idukki is nearly 8 km from and approximately 24 km from Thekkady. The location gets its name majorly owing to the plush green tea plantations and small streams and streams that run through this region.

One of the foremost lures of this region is The Velankanni Matha Church located atop a hill. This is a popular pilgrim center and is constructed wholly from granite. There is also a popular flower garden closely.

Sahyadri Ayurvedic Center

Sahyadri Ayurvedic Center is a popular hospital that proposes Ayurvedic treatments to its patients and is managed by the Peermade Development Society in Pallikunnu. It proposes some attractive medicinal and restorative packages. In fact, the location also maintains a museum of raw drugs housing more than 200 types of rare and endangered herbs.

Best Time to Visit Peermade

Throughout the year, Peermedu experiences enjoyable weather. The temperature during the summer ranges from 15 degrees C to 5 degrees C while during winter the figures range between 15 degrees C and 1 degrees C. Both seasons are recommended as the best time to discover the untouched attractiveness of the town. However, the season of monsoon around the region receives weighty rainfall which may limit your outdoor excursion.

How to Reach Peermade? 

By air: To the location, Cochin International Airport is the closest airport. It is at a distance of nearly 130 Km. The airport is well-linked with the foremost cities within and outside India. From the airport, one can rent a car and drive down to Peermade. It takes nearly 3.5 hours but it’s a delightful drive.

By rail: Kottayam railway station is the closest railway station. It is at a distance of approximately 75 Km from Peermade. You can easily rent a car and drive down to the street.

By Road:  The place is well linked to foremost cities such as Bangalore, Cochin, Kottayam, Thekkady, and many more. The hilly beautiful region has a good network of roads. Regular buses are accessible from the foremost cities. 

Conclusion 

Peermade is also a perfect place for trekking, cycling, and horse riding. Peeru Hills, Kalthotti, and Vagamon along with Karandakapara Hills, Grampi, or Parunthupara, Memala are some of the prevalent trekking ways in Peermedu. Attractive waterfalls at Nallathanni, Valanjamkanam, and Panchalimedu value visiting while at Peermade. The Summer Residence, now transformed into a Government Guest House under the Department of Tourism, proposes contented accommodation.
