Located in the northern part of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bidar is known for its rich history and culture. It was the capital of the Bahmani Sultanate and later the Barid Shahi dynasty, both of which played an important role in the history of South India.

Its also surrounded by lush green hills and forests, offering several opportunities for trekking and other outdoor activities.  Bidar is known for its rich culture and unique cuisine. The city is famous for its Bidriware, a type of metal handicraft that originated in the region. The cuisine of Bidar is a mix of Mughlai and South Indian flavors.

Overall, Bidar is a great place to visit for those interested in history, architecture, and culture. Bidar is a city located on the Deccan Plateau in the southeastern part of the state.

Best Places To Visit In Bidar

Bidar Fort

Built-in the 15th century, the Bidar Fort was constructed to guard the northern approach to the Golconda kingdom. It is a massive complex, with several structures inside of it, including palaces, mosques, and gardens.

The fort is a popular tourist destination and has been featured in numerous books and movies, including “Jodhaa Akbar” and “Mary Kom.” 

Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple

The cave temple is more than 400 years old and it is a good example of Malla-style architecture. It is located on the outskirts of Bidar, which is famous for Bidri Pottery.

This temple is dedicated to Narasimha, a man-lion avatara of Lord Vishnu. The deity is worshiped by the Lingayat community. 

Chaubara Clock Tower

If a person is interested in history and has fond feelings for the ancient, they would love to visit Bidar. The city, in which Chaubara is located, is a former capital and is about 500 years old. The Chaubara is impressive and has been built by the Bahamani kings.

The tower has been made in an octagonal shape and is built with stones. The locals are very friendly and beautiful and are a good example of an ancient Indian way of life. This is a wonderful place to visit and is a must-see for anyone who is in Bidar.

Chaukhandi Of Hazrat Khalil Ullah

The Chaukhandi is a tomb monument located in Bidar. Hazrat Khalil Ullah was a revered Sufi saint and mystic who lived during the 17th century. The Chaukhandi is believed to have been built around the time of his death, which occurred in 1651. The Chaukhandi of Hazrat Khalil Ullah is considered to be an important historical and cultural landmark in Bidar.

It is a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists who come to pay their respects to the saint and admire the beauty of the monument. The site is also of interest to historians and scholars who study the religious and cultural history of the region. 

Rangin Mahal

A palace meant for royalty in the 16th century, the Rangin Mahal has been a favorite tourist attraction for residents of Agra! Built by the famed ruler, Akbar the Great, the Rangin Mahal is also known by its name as the Painted Palace of Agra.

The palace is known for its exquisite paintings and carvings. It is a three-story building and is enclosed by a wall. Rangin Mahal served as not just a palace, but also as a prison for women. Many women were confined here for not obeying the strict rules of the palace.

The palace was restored in the late 19th century and converted into a museum. It is a popular tourist destination, which attracts around 15000 visitors a year. 

Solah Khamba Mosque

Solah Khamba Mosque is a mosque built in the 15th century, known for its 16 pillars. It is regarded as one of the largest mosques in India and one of the finest architectural gems.

The architecture of the mosque is considered to be a textbook example of the traditional style of architecture. The mosque was painted by artists from Persia in the ancient Mughal style, which is the reason the mosque is known

Bahmani Tombs

Bahmani tombs are great monuments of Islamic architecture and are the final resting places of the rulers of the Bahmani dynasty. The tombs are constructed with elaborate inscriptions and Islamic architectural elements.

While the tombs are known for their intricate architecture and carvings, the modern-day tomb is indistinguishable from a mosque. No interior photos are allowed of the actual tombs themselves, so I use this photo as a substitute. 

Gurudwara Nanak Jhira Sahib

It is a prominent Sikh shrine located in Bidar. It is dedicated to the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who is believed to have visited the place during his travels in the 16th century.

The name “Nanak Jhira Sahib” literally means “the spring of Nanak”. According to legend, when Guru Nanak Dev Ji arrived in Bidar, the area was facing a severe drought and people were suffering from a shortage of water.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji, in his benevolent and compassionate nature, used his divine powers to dig a well and provide water. The well, which is believed to be the same one dug by Guru Nanak still exists inside the Gurudwara complex and is known as “Nanak Jhira”

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa

Mahmud Gawan Madrasa is a historic Islamic seminary built in the 15th century. The madrasa is known for its beautiful architecture, which was designed by the famous architect, Muhammad Musa of Tabriz. Heavily influenced by Persian architectural designs, it is a blend of the Persian and Timurid styles.

The blue-tiled dome of the madrasa is one of its most defining features. There are numerous libraries in the madrasa and the interior of the main prayer hall is a mix of the Persian and Timurid styles and is adorned by exquisite mirror work.

The surrounding courtyard is flanked by several geometrically designed corridors. The madrasa is a great example of the harmony which existed in the Islamic world between the different periods and styles.

Best Time To visit Bidar

The best time to visit Bidar, a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, is between October and March. During this time, the weather is cool and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging between 10°C to 30°C.

The months of October and November are particularly favorable for tourists as the weather is pleasant, and the monsoon season has just ended, leaving the city lush and green. From December to February, the temperatures drop a bit, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities like sightseeing, trekking, and exploring the city’s historical sites.

March is also a good time to visit Bidar, but the weather may be slightly warmer, with temperatures gradually rising towards the end of the month. Avoid visiting Bidar during the summer months, from April to June, as the temperatures can soar up to 40°C, making it uncomfortable to explore the city.

How To Reach Bidar?

By Air: The nearest airport to Bidar is the Hyderabad International Airport, which is around 140 km away from Bidar. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Bidar.

By Train: Bidar has its railway station, which is well-connected to major cities in India like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune. You can take a train to Bidar from any of these cities.

By Road: Bidar is well-connected to nearby cities and towns by road. You can take a bus from Hyderabad, Bangalore, or Mumbai to reach Bidar. You can also drive to Bidar from these cities.

By Taxi: You can also hire a taxi or cab from Hyderabad, Bangalore, or Mumbai to reach Bidar. It is a convenient way to reach Bidar if you prefer a comfortable and hassle-free journey.
