The Main falls or Peraruvi is the most prevalent and the major among the 9 falls, at a distance of nearly 300 meters from Courtallam Bus Stand. Sinking from an altitude of 60 m, it is situated right inside Courtallam town.

The flow of water is intermittent by the Pongumakadal rock and comes down moderately making it a safe location to bathe. The waters of Courtallam are supposed to have medicinal potential as it flows through forests of herbs.

Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple is an admired Hindu memorial in the town of Tenkasi. It is nearly 1.5 km from the Tenkasi bus stand, 5 km from Courtallam, and nearly 55 km from Tirunelveli.

Pazhaya Courtallaruvi / Old Courtallam

At a distance of 8 km from Main Falls, 8 km from Courtallam Bus Station, and nearly 10 km from Tenkasi, Pazhaya Courtallaruvi, or Old Courtallam is also better known as Shivamathungai Falls.

Nearly 200 ft fall features steps that are cut out into the rocks for flouting flow of the pouring water to make it harmless for bathing. The water flows through 2 rocks and drops into the valley to form this beautiful waterfall.

Along with discrete bathing locations for men and women, visitors can engage themselves in oil massages. Bathing here is harmless and is a prevalent activity.

Road admittance is accessible close to the falls and a nearly 100 meters walk is required to arrive at the falls from the parking area. Tiger Falls or Puli Aruvi has located 2 km from the Courtallam bus stand. It is located between Main Falls and Old Courtallam.

Five Falls / Aintharuvi

Five Falls, also better known as Aintharuvi, is another noteworthy waterfall in Courtallam and is situated nearly 5 km from the Courtallam Main Falls, nearly 4 km from the Courtallam bus station, and approximately 10 km from Tenkasi.

This is the better-known and most enjoyable waterfall in the area after the foremost falls. Five Falls got its name owing to the water separations into 5 branches as it falls. Water flows in 5 main directions, pretending the five heads of a snake, making it uncommon.

Locals hold it in the greatest regard and associate it with Adishesha. There are five falls, three reachable to males and two to women.

Kutralanathar Temple

At a distance of 200 m from Courtallam Bus Station, nearly 7 km from Tenkasi and 62 km from Tirunelveli, The Kutralanathar Temple also better known as Thirukkutralanathar is one of the most prevalent temples of Tamilnadu and is enthusiastic to Lord Shiva.

This stunning place of worship is one of Lord Shiva’s 275 Thevara Shivasthalas or holy abodes. The temple is nearly 2000 years old and there are a lot of old Tamil inscriptions of the Chola and Pandyan durations. It is positioned near Courtallam Falls.

The major deity of Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a self-displayed Linga. This temple is positioned in a serene atmosphere and it inhabits 3.5 acres of land at the foothills of Trikoodamalai. 

Best Time To Visit Tenkasi

To visit Tenkasi, the best season is the winter season. The great months to visit are February, July, August, September, October, November, and March.

The summers in Tenkasi are hot and commonly circumvented by tourists. The month of March marks the beginning of the summer season and it continues till May.

How To Reach? 

By air: Tenkasi does not have common air connections to the country’s other major cities. Trivandrum, situated 68 kilometers to the south, is home to the airport within a straight distance.

By train: There are no trains that regularly run to or from Tenkasi from any of the other main cities in the nation. Tirunelveli, which is 55 kilometers away, has a railway station that is the most expedient for travelers.

By road: State highway road links Tenkasi and Tirunelveli. The National Highways route links it to Quilon and Thirumangalam.
