Priya Jerson Profession
From a very early age, Priya was interested in singing. Thus, the girl started learning classical music from K M Udayan, a music teacher based in Elamakkara, and Hindustani music from Vijay Sursain of Vytillla. During her school days, Priya also used to participate in inter-school singing competitions.
In 2012, when Priya was studying in class XI, she attended the audition for the first season of Josco Indian Voice, a musical reality show aired on the Mazhavil Manorama channel. Eventually, she got an entry into the grand finale round of the show held in October 2012. Luck was in Priya’s favor and she was the only school student who made an appearance on the list of five finalists in the competition.
During that time, Priya also got an opportunity to sing playback songs in a couple of Malayalam movies. Some of them were the song ‘ Kannamthumbi’ from Teens, a duet song with renowned Pakistani singer Atif Aslam in Saamrajyam-2, and also a song in the film Bhoopadathil Illatha Oridam.
The turning point in Priya’s life was meeting Yuvan Shankar Raja, the ace Tamil music director. At that time, he was looking for a singer who is new to the industry to sing a song in the film ‘Balloon’. Thus Yuvan went to a reality show on a television channel and Priya was the lucky one to get the chance to sing the song ‘Chirujalley Neevu Ra’ in the film.
Some of the other renowned film songs sung by Priya include ‘Ey Penem Paperum’ from Son of Satyamoorthi, ‘Manchali’ from Liger, ‘Maanam Thotte Nammal’ from Vellarikkapattanam, ‘Love Mystry’ from To Noora with Love, etc.
In 2023, Priya appeared as a contestant for the second time in the musical reality show ‘Super Singer Season 9’ which aired on Vijay TV. Though she had appeared in the show earlier, luck was not in her favor.
However, when the results of Season 9 were announced in June 2023, Priya emerged as the first-runner-up title winner and won a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs.
On the work front, Priya joined as a Primary teacher at Christu Jayanthi Public School Rajagiri Valley, Kakkanad in Ernakulam on 4th November 2019.
