Radhika Apte is an Indian film and stage actress who majorly works in Hindi movies. Apart from Hindi movies, Radhika has also acted in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, and English-language films. She started her acting career by working in theatre and later ventured into movies.

In 2005, Radhika Apte made her debut in films with a brief role in Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi!, a Hindi comedy drama film. The actress has a huge fan following on social media platforms with a whopping 3.8 million followers on Instagram and 9,63,900 followers on Twitter.

Family

Radhika was born on 7 September 1985 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. At the time of her birth, the actress’s father Dr. Charudutt Apte, and her mother (name not known) was studying and working as doctors at the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore.

Later, Dr. Charudutt Apte went on to become a leading neurosurgeon in Pune and the Chairman of the Sahyadri Hospital. Radhika’s mom is an anesthetist and she has also been the CEO of the hospital. The actress also has a brother by the name of Ketan Apte.

Affair 

In 2011, Radhika Apte met Benedict Taylor, a British musician during her dance classes in London. Later, the couple was in a live-in relationship for some time and the following year, they had a registered marriage.

In March 2013, Radhika and Benedict got married officially. Benedict has composed music for several movies such as Udta Punjab, The Bright Day, Ship of Theseus, and That Girl in Yellow Boots.

Education

Radhika did her schooling at a pure Marathi medium school. Hence, till the time of going to college, she didn’t know English at all. Later, she joined Fergusson College, Pune, and completed her graduation in economics and mathematics.

Controversies

  • In November 2017, Radhika made a shocking revelation that it’s not only women, but men also suffer from sexual abuse in the film industry. In an interview with PTI, the actress said that she knows a lot of men who have gone through sexual harassment and it is high time that such issues come out in the public. According to Radhika, people are scared that the other person who is influential might ruin their career and their complaint might go unnoticed. She went on to say that more people need to speak up and start taking names.
  • In another infamous incident, a nude video of a female went viral and there were rumors doing the rounds that it was Radhika. The leaked clip was from Radhika’s movie ‘Clean Shaven’ and the actress later clarified that the lady in the video was not her. Radhika also said that the trolls affected her and she could not go out of the house for four days as her driver and watchman recognized her from the images.

Profession

Radhika Apte kickstarted her acting career with theatre and went on to be part of several Marathi plays. Later, she associated with Aasakta Kalamanch, a Pune-based theatre troupe for a long time, and performed in plays such as Tu, Matra Ratra, Purnaviram, and Samuel Beckett`s That Time with Rehan Engineer.

In 2005, during her college days, she did her debut movie Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! Later, actor Rahul Bose happened to see Radhika perform in Anahita Oberoi’s play Bombay Black and recommended her name to director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. Thus, she was cast in the 2009 Bengali film ‘Antaheen’ and Radhika portrayed the role of Brinda Roy Menon, a journalist.

Later, Radhika acted in several commercially successful movies and she received critical acclaim for her stunning performances. Some of them include the Tamil action film Kabali with Tamil superstar Rajnikanth in the lead role, the Hindi biographical film Pad Man where she was cast opposite Akshay Kumar, and Andhadhun – the Hindi black comedy. Radhika’s other major Hindi movies include Badlapur, Manjhi – The Mountain Man, Phobia, and Parched. 

The actress has also acted in a couple of Netflix productions— Lust Stories – an anthology movie,  the thriller series Sacred Games, and the horror mini-series Ghoul.

As per sources, Radhika’s net worth stands at $7 million. Apart from the income she earns from movies, the actress also makes money by endorsing leading brands such as Daniel Wellington, Clinique, Coca-Cola Smartwater, Rio Pads, and Safe.

  • Radhika once revealed in an interview that in the initial days of her career, she was asked to do jobs on her body and face. In the first meeting, she was asked to change her nose and later her boobs, legs, and jaw. The actress also added that she is sick and tired of such people.
  • The actress says that there are cases where the scripts of films are changed at the last minute. According to Radhika, it’s not in her control and things don’t go according to the contract. 
  • During Radhika’s wedding with Benedict, the couple forgot to click pictures. Though half of their friends were photographers, all of them had heavily boozed and they missed taking photographs.
  • At one point in time, Radhika Apte used to speak Spanish very fluently.
  • While commenting on the controversy regarding banning Pakistani artists in India, Radhika said that if a Swiss watch can come to India and set up their own corporate stores, a Pakistani actor should come to this country and do a film here.
  • When asked about what she admires the most about her ‘Vikram Vedha’ co-star Hrithik Roshan, the actress said that it’s his dedication to fitness.
  • Till the time of the Covid-19 outbreak, Radhika Apte and her husband had a long-distance relationship. However, nowadays the actress tries to spend more time with Benedict.
