Among those phases, this location in the state of Haryana belongs to the mature phase, again accentuating its significance in a historical tourist visit.
Unfinished Excavations Unveiling The Indus Valley Secrets
Even though this place is an archaeological hotspot, excavations are not yet complete in most of the locations here. It was during the 1960s that the government and its archaeological authorities began excavating this place to understand and record more about the Indus Valley Civilization that happened here.
After the first phase of excavations, the 1990s saw the next phase. The third round of excavations happened during the period between 2012 – 2016. Again in 2021, another round of excavations began which is still going on in the location.
However, records show that the intensity and seriousness of excavations increased recently which helped in enhancing the tourism significance of this place among history and heritage enthusiasts.
This particular city is spread over an area of 5.5 square kilometres. Some of the neighbouring regions of Rakhi Garhi have also got similar archaeological significance such as Mitathal and Lohari Ragho. Even though these regions are quite worthy of excavations, officials have not begun with the same in those locations.
