Sapna Choudhary is an Indian actress, dancer, and singer. A contestant in the reality show Bigg Boss’s season 11, Sapna has also been part of the movies Journey of Bhangover’and ‘Veerey Ki Wedding’.

The actress also holds the distinction of being the first Indian regional artist to debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Sapna is a YouTube sensation and her dance videos on Haryanvi songs have garnered millions of views on YouTube.

She also has a massive fan following on social media platforms with 5.5 million followers on Instagram and 4.1 million followers on Facebook.

Sapna Choudhary Family

Sapna Choudhary was born on Spetember 25, 1990 to Bhupendra Atri and Neelam Choudhary. She belongs to a middle-class Jat family. Sapna also has a sibling, Megha Choudhary. 

Relationship 

In 2016, Sapna Choudhary met Veer Sahu for the first time at a program organized at Ladwa Goshala in Hisar. A singer and composer, Veer hail from Haryana, and some of his popular music videos include “Devdas,” “Khalnayak”, “Shiba Ki Rani,” and “Thaddi Baddi.”

After their first meeting, Sapna and Veer soon fell in love with each other and dated for four years. Though the couple got married in 2020, they had kept the news of their marriage a secret for a long time. Later, in October 2020, Veer went live on Facebook and announced that Sapna had delivered a baby boy.

Education

During her childhood days, Sapna’s ambition was to become an inspector with the police force. However, destiny had other plans and her father passed away when Sapna was studying in 8th standard. Thus, to take care of the responsibilities of her family, she started doing night shows after her school.

There were times when Sapna used to return home at 6 in the morning and went to school post that. The actress could not continue her studies after her 12th standard due to her commitments.

Controversies

In 2016, social activist Satpal Tanwar accused Sapna of singing a song containing words that denigrated Dalits. It was during a stage show held in Gurgaon that Sapna delivered the controversial performance.

In connection with the incident, Satpal had also lodged a police complaint at Sector 29 police station in Gurgaon. Eventually, in the month of September, Sapna consumed rat poison and attempted to commit suicide.

The actress also left a five-page suicide note accusing Satpal of running a social media campaign against her.

In March 2019, rumors were abuzz that Sapna had joined the Congress party and would be contesting against Hindi film actress Hema Malini from the Mathura Lok Sabha seat. It was following a tweet by Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Raj Babbar welcoming Sapna to the party.

He had also posted a photogrpah of the actress standing along with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi. However, Sapna later rubbished all the rumors stating that she has not joined any party and that her picture along with Priyanka was an old one.

After her father passed away in 2008, Sapna made her entry into dancing to support her family. She developed expertise in Khodiya, a traditional dance form that showcases the repressed sexuality of women in Haryana. Eventually, Sapna’s amazing dancing style helped her grow into a cultural icon in Haryana.

Once, at a local program, she danced to the song ‘ Teri Aankhya Ka Yo Kaajal’ and its YouTube video garnered a whopping 391 million views. The video was also listed among the 25 most-watched videos in India.

In 2015, Sapna rose to fame with the song ‘Solid Body Re’ which went viral. Two years later, in 2017 the actress gained more popularity after she joined Season 11 of the reality show Bigg Boss.

Following Bigg Boss, Sapna made her foray into the Hindi film industry with ‘ Veerey Ki Wedding’, a movie directed by Ashu Trikha. In the film, she sang the song ‘ Hatt Ja Tau’, along with singer Sunidhi Chauhan and also made a special appearance. Sapna’s next project was ‘Nanu Ki Jaanu’, a horror comedy movie where the actress danced along with Abhay Deol in the song ‘Tere Thumke’.

• While explaining the reason for marrying her singer husband Veer Sahu, Sapna said that her only weakness is that she sings very less and also that she is not a good singer. Sapna also mentioned that she is proud to be married to Veer.

• During the occasion of Sapna’s brother’s wedding in 2018, some of her Bigg Boss housemates including Arshi Khan, Aksash Dadlani, and Mehjabi Siddiqui reunited at the function. Arshi Khan was also seen dancing with Sapna to the tunes of ‘Rashke Qamar’, a song by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

• Sapna once told in an interview that even after completing 15 years in the Hindi film industry, she is still struggling to get a break. The actress cited factors such as not being willing to wear explosive outfits and inability to speak fluent English for being denied good opportunities.

• In 2021, there were rumors doing the rounds that Sapna is pregnant for the second time. However, the actress denied all those rumors stating that she is not planning to have a second child for the next five years. Sapna also said that whenever she is planning to have her next child, she will keep the media people informed in advance so that they don’t end up spreading rumors.

• In 2021 September, fake news was circulating that Sapna passed away. Later, the actress said that her family members received calls from everywhere and they were quite upset.
