Kartiki looked radiant in a saffron short kurta paired with white pants and shoes, while Bomman opted for a khaki shirt and saffron dhoti, and Bellie draped herself in an orange saree with a pink blouse. The reunion was a heartwarming moment, filled with joy and love, as the entire “Elephant Whisperers” family came together again after six years.

Kartiki mentioned each of the elephants by name – Bomman, Bellie, Raghu, and Ammu (Bommi) – and even included a black heart emoji to convey her deep emotions. She also highlighted the presence of the prestigious Oscar trophy in the photo, symbolizing the film’s success. Kartiki concluded by noting the date, April 9th, 2023, as a special moment in their beautiful journey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a historic encounter with the elephants Bomman and Bellie, as well as Raghu and Ammu (Bommi), from “The Elephant Whisperers” during his visit to Theppakadu Elephant Camp at the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve’s Mudumalai Tiger Reserve.
Kartiki Gonsalves, the director of the Oscar-winning documentary, shared a picture on Instagram and expressed her excitement, mentioning that it was the first time in Indian history that a Prime Minister had visited the camp.
The girl also mentioned her meeting with the prestigious prime minister of India Narendra Modi and how she got the chance to interact with the indigenous communities – these all are traditional elephant caregivers statewise. They are also known as the largest contiguous space exclusive for wild and large elephants.
“The Elephant Whisperers” won the prestigious Oscar for Best Documentary Short at the 95th Academy Awards. The 41-minute documentary delves into the heartwarming bond between Raghu, an orphaned baby elephant, and his devoted caretakers – a mahout couple named Bomman and Bellie – who selflessly protect him from poachers and raise him as their own.
It is a significant milestone as the first Indian documentary and one of only two Indian productions to ever win an Oscar, shining a global spotlight on the incredible story of compassion and resilience.
