The Only Indian Film To Be Featured At Cannes 2023 Is Kennedy, Directed By Anurag Kashyap
Exciting news! Anurag Kashyap’s latest film, ‘Kennedy’, has been officially selected to be screened at the renowned Cannes Film Festival in 2023. The announcement was made on Thursday, as the festival unveiled its line-up, and Kashyap’s film made the cut. This movie is going to be the show of the night with the midnight sessions- it will take place around 16 to 27 May.
The Cannes Film Festival’s official Twitter handle shared the news with a post that read, Kashyap himself also shared the exciting update on his social media accounts, expressing his gratitude and excitement. ‘Kennedy’ stars renowned actors like Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt, and Abhilash Thapliyal, and the details of the movie have been kept tightly under wraps.
Fremaux praised the abundance of films from all around the world, with over 2,000 films being considered for selection, reflecting the vibrant state of world cinema and the global aspiration to create meaningful films.
The director took an effort to tally his competition among the French movies as well. Among the French competition entries are ‘The Passion of Dodin Bouffant’, a period romance directed by Tran Anh Hung and featuring renowned actors Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel. The anticipation for ‘Kennedy’ and its premiere at Cannes 2023 is now at an all-time high.
According to Fremaux, the Official Selection for Cannes 2023 is not yet final, and more films are expected to be unveiled in the coming days. There are rumors of potential additions to the festival lineup, including Ladj Ly’s follow-up to “Les Miserables” and Yorgos Lanthimos’s “Poor Things.”
The festival will open on May 16 with Maiwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry”, which stars the director herself alongside Johnny Depp. Italian cinema will also have a prominent presence at Cannes this year, with films from renowned Italian directors Nanni Moretti (“The Sun of the Future”), Marco Bellocchio (“Rapito”), and Rohrwacher, who previously competed at Cannes with “The Wonders” and “Happy as Lazzaro”, which won the Jury Prize and the screenplay award, respectively, as tweeted by Variety.
In addition to “Four Daughters”, the competition lineup includes another politically-minded documentary, “Jeunesse” by Chinese director Wang Bing, who previously screened “Dead Souls” at Cannes.
Wang Bing also has “Man in Black” in the Special Screenings category. Wim Wenders, who previously won the Palme d’Or for “Paris, Texas”, is also back in the competition with “Perfect Days”, one of the two films he will be screening at Cannes.
