Controversies
On April 24th, 2023, Sharmila was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. The politician was detained by Jubilee Hills police following the allegation that she had slapped a female police constable and manhandled a sub-inspector who restricted her from entering her car.
The incident took place when Sharmila was leaving her residence in the city to organize a protest outside the office of the special investigation team (SIT) that is conducting an inquiry into the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) question paper leak case.
In July 2019, Sharmila filed a police complaint against the social media wing of Telugu Desam Party alleging that they are spreading baseless allegations of her having an illegal relationship with the Telugu film actor Prabhas.
According to Sharmila, during the 2014 elections also, certain vested interests with political motivations had tried to malign her by spreading the false news of her having a relationship with Prabhas and the same rumor has resurfaced again.
Back in 2014, Prabhas had rubbished all the rumors stating that she never met or spoke with Sharmila and the news doing the rounds of him having an affair with the politician is completely baseless.
Y.S. Sharmila Profession
Prior to June 2012, Sharmila had never been part of the world of politics. In that year, her brother Jagan was imprisoned following his alleged involvement in a slew of assets cases.
Thus, in the absence of Jagan who was then the President of YSRCP, Sharmila started campaigning for the by-polls to 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha constituency in the state of Andhra Pradesh. When the election results were out, YSRCP went on to win 15 assembly seats and the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency.
During that time, Y.S. Sharmila had launched Maro Praja Prasthanam – a 3000 Km walkathon following the path of her late father who had initiated a 1600-km long padayatra back in 2003. However, Sharmila met with a knee injury in the middle of the padayatra forcing her to take a break for two months.
In 2019, Sharmila was back with a bang, spearheading an 11-day bus yatra in the wake of the 2019 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The YSRCP went on to win that year’s election with a thumping majority. Subsequently, Jagan became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Sharmila and her mother took a back seat.
In February 2021, Sharmila disclosed to the media that there were political differences between her and Jagan. Eventually, on July 8th, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of her father YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Sharmila launched YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), her own political party.
Y.S. Sharmila Net Worth
