Suryakumar Yadav, popularly known as SKY is an Indian cricket player who represents the country in the international arena. A right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler, he is also a team member of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and part of the Mumbai cricket team in Indian domestic cricket.
Yadav has been rated as the No. 1 player in Twenty20 cricket according to the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council on 1st November 2022.

Suryakumar Yadav Family
Though born and brought up in Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav’s family has roots in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. When Yadav was 10 years old, his father Ashok Kumar Yadav migrated to Mumbai in order to join a job at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Yadav’s mother Swapna Yadav is a housewife and he has two siblings, a brother, and a sister.

In 2010, Yadav met Devisha Shetty for the first time during their college days at R.A.Podar College Of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai.

Devita, a South Indian born in Mumbai, was also a trained dancer. After being friends for some time, Yadav and Devisha fell in love with each other. On May 29, 2016, the couple got engaged and their wedding took place in the same year on 7th July.

Suryakumar Yadav completed his school education at Atomic Energy Central School, Mumbai. Later he joined Atomic Energy Junior College and completed his BCom from Pillai College of Arts, Commerce, and Science in Mumbai.
Suryakumar Yadav Controversies
In the 2020 Indian Premier League, it stirred controversy during a match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In a crucial match for both teams, Virat Kohli, the then-captain of RCB stared at Yadav and this moment went viral.
Referring to this incident, Suryakumar Yadav later commented that Kohli’s sled was on another level. He went on to add that Kohli’s energy on the ground is always at a different level. However, Yadav admitted that though he was chewing gum at that moment, he felt terrified and his heart was racing fast.
Though Kohli walked past him, it was Yadav’s dropping the bat that helped him break the tension in that situation. While recollecting the incident, Yadav stated that he didn’t look at Kohli for the rest of the match, but just kept his eyes down and batted through. He added that they both never discussed that topic later.

Yadav grew up playing cricket in the streets of Chembur, Mumbai. When he was 10 years of age, Yadav’s father noticed his son’s inclination towards the game and made him join a cricket camp in the BARC colony in Anushakti Nagar.
Later, he got enrolled at the Elf Vengsarkar Academy run by former Indian cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar and played age group cricket in Mumbai.
Yadav kickstarted his club cricket by playing for Parsi Gymkhana Cricket Club, Mumbai. Later in the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy, he made his first-class cricket debut by playing for the Mumbai cricket team. He was also made the captain of the team for a short span of time.
Yadav’s IPL career started in 2012 after he received an IPL contract from Mumbai Indians. Later, in 2014, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auctions. However, Yadav again came back to Mumbai Indians in 2018, after they bought him by paying a whopping sum of ₹3.2 crores (US$400,000). In the same year in October, Yadav got selected for India C’s squad for the Deodhar Trophy.
In 2021, Yadav was picked for the Indian team’s One Day International and Twenty20 squads for their series against Sri Lanka. On 18 July 2021, he made his one-day international debut. In the same month, Yadav was selected as a replacement for India’s Test cricket team for their series against England.
To date, Yadav has played 16 ODIs and 45 T20s for the nation. From these many matches, he has scored 384 ODI runs with an average of 32.00 and 1578 T20 runs with an average of 46.41.
