Sudha Chandran: All About The Famous Indian Classical Dancer
Sudha Chandran is a Bharatanatyam dancer and actress from India who primarily works in television serials and movies. She became a household name after portraying the character of Ramola Sikand in the Hindi serial ‘Kaahin Kissii Roz’.
The other popular serials of Sudha include Naagin 1, 2, 3, and 6 and Deivam Thandha Veedu. In 1985, the actress received the Special Jury Award at the prestigious National Film Awards for her performance in ‘Mayuri’, a Telugu movie based on her real life.

Sudha Chandran Family
Sudha was born on 27 September 1965. Though she was born and brought up in Mumbai, her family is originally from Vayalur, Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. Sudha’s father Late K.D. Chandran worked as the chief librarian with USIS, Mumbai.
He was also an actor and has worked in several Hindi films such as Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Koi Mil Gaya, and China Gate. Sudha’s mother Thangam, a classical singer was a homemaker.
Relationships
Sudha met Ravi Dang, an associate director for the first time in connection with acting in a film. According to the actress, it was not love at first sight. Eventually, a friendship developed between the two, and Ravi started accompanying Sudha to auditions.
For 6 years, there was a rock-solid friendship between Sudha and Ravi. Later they both realized that a strong feeling of companionship had developed between them. Though Sudha wanted to marry Ravi, her mother had objections to her daughter marrying someone from the industry.
Moreover, Ravi was a Punjabi, and Sudha’s mother wanted her daughter to marry a Tamil Brahmin. Later, Sudha somehow convinced her mother, and finally, she married Ravi in 1995 at a temple in Chembur.
The couple decided not to have kids and have not even adopted a child, as both of them do not believe in that ideology.

Sudha did her BA from Mithibai College in Mumbai. Later, the actress completed her MA in Economics.
Controversies
In an interview, Sudha once revealed that she no longer attends audition or give look tests for roles. According to the actress, she bluntly says that she doesn’t audition.
Sudha went on to say that despite having 35 years of experience in the industry, if one doesn’t know her caliber, then she is not interested in working with such people.

At a very early age of 3 and a half years, Sudha started learning how to dance. During those times, she used to go to school, later went to dance classes, and returned home only by 9:30 pm. In her 10th standard exams, Sudha went on to score 80% marks.
However, for further studies, she opted for arts instead of science so that she could spend time on dance. By that time, Sudha had completed hundreds of dance shows at several events.
At the age of 17, Sudha went through the most unfortunate incident of her life. She was traveling from Trichy by bus and met with a major accident. Subsequently, Sudha was advised by the doctors to amputate her feet and her parents painfully agreed to that.
Later Sudha was implanted with a Jaipur leg and it took 3 years of physiotherapy for her to come back to normal life.
An undeterred Sudha decided to go back to dance. She delivered her first comeback performance at St. Xavier’s College and received a standing ovation for performing Vaaranyam with ease on that stage.
In 1985, Sudha acted in ‘Mayuri’, her first movie directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao in Telugu. The story of the movie was based on Sudha’s real-life story. Subsequently, the film was dubbed into Malayalam and Tamil as ‘Mayoori’. It was also remade as Naache Mayuri in Hindi. Later Sudha went on to act in movies in several languages such as Malayalam, Hindi, Gujarati, and Tamil.
In Hindi serials, Sudha delivered some memorable performances such as Gayathri Kaul in K Street Pali Hill and Mallika Nanda in Kuch Iss Tara. She was also a contestant in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2’, a dance reality show.

- There was a time when Sudha’s movies flopped. Subsequently, many people came to her and said that she was not cut for the industry. They also said that if the film based on her real life worked, it doesn’t mean that she is made for the industry. They also advised her to quit the film industry.
- Sudha had a habit of wishing everyone in the film sets. When she and Ravi Dang worked together for the first time, though Sudha wished him, he didn’t wish her back. On asking him the reason for not wishing her back, Ravi replied that he was busy with his production work and thus missed acknowledging her wish.
- According to her, it becomes difficult for an artist when there is no work. Sudha says that most of the artists have gone through financial trouble and during the time they make money, it is wiser for artists to invest money in the right way.
- Sudha revealed in an interview that she didn’t want to live after meeting with the accident and it was only because of her parents that she bounced back.
- Sudha says that her film Nache Mayuri proved to be an inspiration for many. There were people who were going through a rough patch in their lives. However, after watching the movie, they got inspired and many of them are leading entrepreneurs today.
