Shraddha Kapoor Will Play Kalpana Chawla In A Film About The Late Indian Astronaut

Going by the leaked poster circulating on the internet, Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor will be portraying the lead role of Kalpana Chawla, the late astronaut in her biopic. However, the makers of the film are yet to make an official announcement about the project. The poster of the movie was first shared by a netizen on Redditt and it soon went viral.
As per the details mentioned in the poster, the film will be produced by RSVP, a production company founded by Ronnie Screwvala. Aanand L Rai, who has come up with hit movies such as Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa in the past will be directing the film.
Apart from Shraddha Kapoor playing the lead character, prominent Bollywood actors such as Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Fahim Khan will be making a special appearance.
Musical maestros AR Rahman and Vikram Montrose will be composing the music for the film. The movie poster has been launched with the tagline ‘ The Untold Story of Kalpana Chawla’. It is expected that the biopic will be hitting the screens on December 29, 2023.
Hailing from Karnal in Haryana, Kalpana Chawla holds the record of being the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. However, on 1 February 2003, Kalpana met with a tragic death as she happened to be one of the seven crew members who passed away in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. The mishap occurred due to the disintegration of the spacecraft during its reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Recently Shraddha Kapoor was seen flaunting a short hair look. In the photograph posted by the actress on Instagram, the caption read “Dil chota mat karo, baal karo”. As soon as the poster of the Kalpana Chawla biopic surfaced on Reddit, it fuelled the rumors that the actress chopped her hair in connection with the filming of the biopic.
After a long gap of 3 years, Shraddha was recently seen in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, a film directed by Luv Ranjan. The film was also special due to the reason that she has been cast opposite actor Ranbir Kapoor for the first time.
In a recent interview with Rediff, the actress was asked about how it feels about acting in a film after 3 years. Shraddha was quick to respond that she was feeling nervous as well as excited. The actress added that she felt like it was her debut film and also passed a humorous remark that her fingers and toes are both crossed.
Shraddha will be next seen in ‘Stree 2’, a film directed by Amar Kaushik. On April 12, the makers of the film unveiled the details at the Jio Studios’ Infinite Together event. It is the sequel of Stree, one of the blockbuster films of 2018.
She will be cast along with leading actors such as Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Abhishek Banerjee. The movie is expected to hit the big screen on August 31, 2024.
