Meet Abhinav Manohar: A Rising Star in Indian Cricket!

Abhinav Manohar Sadarangani is an Indian cricket player. A right-handed batsman and a leg-break googly bowler, Abhinav plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he is part of Gujarat Titans.

The cricketer is quite active on social media platforms and has 34,300 followers on Instagram. Sharanya Sadarangani, Abhinav’s cousin plays for Germany’s women’s national cricket team.

Abhinav was born on 16 September 1994. His father Manohar Sadarangani was running a footwear shop on Commercial street in Bangalore and his mother Neetha Manohar is a homemaker. Abhinav also has two sisters, Sparsha Sadarangani and Krithika Manohar Sadarangani.

Abhinav did his schooling at St.Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Bangalore. Later he joined a college in Bangalore to pursue his graduation.

Abhinav’s father Manohar and cricket coach Irfan Sait were very good friends. One day Manohar asked Irfan to enroll little Abhinav at his cricket academy.

However, Irfan was a bit reluctant as the boy was never interested in cricket. Later, he said that he would give it a shot, and finally, the 6-year-old Abhinav joined his academy.

In the initial days, Abhinav started playing cricket at the academy along with his cousin Sharanya Sadarangani. During those times, Abhinav was scared of facing fast bowlers. Slowly he started showing interest in the game, but the passion was missing in him. However, it all changed in 2006.

A practice match was held between the academy and Hyderabad state Under 14 team in 2006. During the match, a ball hit Abhinav and he started bleeding. In turn, Abhinav was taken to the hospital and he got a couple of stitches.

Though his coach Irfan thought that Abhinav would never return again, the boy came back the next day and scored a brilliant century. According to Irfan, that incident proved to be the turning point in Abhinav’s cricketing career.

Later, Abhinav made rapid progress in his career and got selected for the Under-16 and Under-19 teams. Subsequently, the cricketer joined Bangalore United Cricket Club (BUCC) and delivered some remarkable performances in Karnataka State Cricket Association’s first-division league.

On 16 November 2021, Abhinav made his Twenty20 debut for Karnataka by playing against Saurashtra at the 2021–22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He emerged top scorer with an unbeaten 70 runs that came off just 49 balls.

Abhinav made his List A debut for Karnataka on December 19, 2021, when he played in the preliminary quarter-finals of the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy. A year later, in February 2022, at the auction held for the 2022 Indian Premier League, Gujarat Titans bought Abhinav for a whopping INR 2.60 crore. It was a mammoth deal as Arjun was grabbed for a sum that was 13 times his base price.

In March 2022, in an IPL match held between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, Abhinav steered his team to victory in the last over by scoring boundaries back to back. Later, in a post-match interview, the Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya said that with the talent he has, Abhinav is somebody to watch out for. He also went on to add that a lot will be heard about Abhinav in the future.

• During his teenage days, Abhinav has gone through obesity issues. Later, he worked out to shed weight and followed a regimen that helped him immensely in big hitting.

• Five years before being selected to Gujarat Titans, Abhinav had attended a trial with Mumbai Indians. Unfortunately, he got rejected as he could not achieve the target set during a practice match.

• The cricketer had made up his mind that if he was unable to build a career in cricket by 30, he would bid goodbye to the sport and would get into stock trading or some other business.

• Abhinav’s father used to run a footwear shop on Commercial Street in Bangalore. Later, he had to shut down his business and the cricketer’s family had deep financial trouble. Abihnav’s coach Irfan recalls those days when Abhinav became more aggressive and started training thrice daily. From being a mere hobby, cricket became a passion for Abhinav.

• The cricketer once said he was lucky his parents did not pressure him to get a job. According to Abhinav, his father just told him to keep trying so things would fall into place.

• When the 2022 IPL auction was going on, Abhinav and his entire family watched the auction proceeding live on television. Abinav later said in an interview that he has not been sleeping well and hardly got 3 to 4 hours of sleep a night for the past week.

• From the very beginning itself, Abhinav knew that he could do something as batsmen of his age could not hit big sixes. Since he is able to hit the ball very well, the cricketer hopes to use that skill to his advantage and make it to the Indian team.

• Abhinav is a great fan of KL Rahul, the Indian international cricketer. He says that he likes the way Rahul bats and how he adapts himself to all forms of cricket. Abhinav also added that Rahul is mentally very strong and acts as a source of inspiration for him.
