Akhil Akkineni Family
Born on 8 April 1994, Akhil hails from an actor family. The actor’s grandfather, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao was a renowned actor-producer in the Telugu film industry. Akhil’s father Nagarjuna, and mother Amala are also famous actors in the South Indian film industry. Akhil has a half-brother Naga Chaitanya who also is a leading actor in the Telugu film industry.

Akhil was in a relationship with Shriya Bhupal, the granddaughter of business tycoon GVK Reddy. Shriya, who runs her own design label, ‘Shriya Som’ was four years older than the actor. After dating for two years, the couple later got engaged on December 9, 2016. However, within a few months, their marriage was called off. Reportedly, it was the huge age gap between the two that led to Akhil developing cold feet after the engagement. If rumors are to be believed, Akhil and Shriya even had a big fight at the Hyderabad airport.

On January 22, 2023, Nandamuri Balakrishna, a leading actor in Telugu made a distasteful remark against Akkineni Nageswara Rao, the grandfather of Akhil. It was during the celebration event of his film “Veera Simha Reddy” that Balakrishna made a controversial statement that his father SV Ranga Rao had some contemporaries like Akkineni, Thokkineni, and some others. It led to a furore on social media and Akhil later issued a statement mentioning that disrespecting a legendary actor like Nageswara Rao is like degrading oneself.

Akhil stepped into the world of films in 1994 as a child artist. Back then, he was just a 1-year-old kid and the movie was ‘Sisindri’, directed by Siva Nageswara Rao. It was an an Indian adaptation of the American film ‘Baby’s Day Out’. For his maiden film, Akhil won the Filmfare Special Award that year. Later, in 2014, the actor played a cameo role in the film ‘Manam’.
In 2015, Akhil made his debut as a lead actor with ‘Akhil: The Power of Jua’, directed by V. V. Vinayak. He was paired with Sayyeshaa Saigal in the film. However, the movie bombed at the box office and following its disaster, the actor went on a two-year hiatus.
Akhil made a comeback in 2017 with ‘Hello’, a film directed by Vikram Kumar. However, the movie failed to create an impact at the box office. It was followed by his third film Mr. Majnu in 2019 which also flopped. Thus, 3 of Akhil’s films tasted failure back to back at the box office.
In October 2021, Akhil delivered his first hit, ‘Most Eligible Bachelor’, a romcom directed by Bhaskar Natarajan. The last movie from the actor was ‘Agent’ directed by Surender Reddy, released in theatres on 28 April 2023.
