Anoushka Shankar is a British musician and the daughter of renowned Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar. Anoushka is the first woman to receive the British house of commons shield. Further, Anoushka is born on 9th June 1981 in London, UK. Her childhood was between London and New Delhi.

As such she is known as a British-Indian musician with a nature of being fun, friendly, and kind that rightly suits the essence of being a successful musician. Being keen on learning music she considered her father the guru and started learning from her childhood. Her first public performance was on the occasion of her father’s 75th birthday celebrations in New Delhi at the age of thirteen.

Further, they met again, but this time in Los Angles and the chemistry that they shared brought them new heights which compelled them to be together. Soon Anoushka became a mother of two children.

Famous Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar is her father.   Her mother Sukanya Shankar has loved his husband since she first met him in London. However, it is a fact that Anoushka their daughter was born in 1981 while their marriage was in 1989. By the time of marriage, her father had turned 70 and the intention was to master their little daughter in the sitar instrument.  Ravi Shankar passed away in 2012 after a heart valve replacement surgery. On the other hand, he had a relationship with Sue Jones and had a daughter Norah Jones. The affair did not last long and hence there was no marriage between them but Norah Jones is the half-sister to Anoushka.

It is in 2009, that Anoushka began her relationship with Joe wright the British director. They tied the knot in Sept 2010 and then relocated to London to make a successful living. Further, they had two children Zubin Shankar wright and Mohan Shankar wright. As their journey continued, they faced differences which resulted in their separation from their relationship in 2018.    

Education

Anoushka Shankar was in favor of preparing for a career in music rather than going to college. She had passed out with distinction at secondary school however the focus was on music and associated stage performances. For bringing out the inner skills it is said that parents are the best motivators and Anoushka is the perfect example. Instead of getting trained at a professional institute, she preferred her training guru as her father. Together with hard work and dedication, she became the magnificent sitar player of modern times.

Further, Anoushka Shankar had been a victim of child abuse and was from a person trusted by her parents. She had gone through verbal abuse, touching, and groping. Even as an upcoming star, society had not changed much when it comes to women and the outrage continues. Anoushka believes that being vulnerable makes a person stronger. It all comes with trust, building relationships, and going through the natural process. As of today, this trust has built up her audience which is strong enough to answer the critics.

By profession, Anoushka is a sitar player and Music composer. In 2001, she launched Live at Carnegie Hall and got nominated for a Best world music album. Further, with her immense talent, she got nominated for various awards and got established in Indian classical music. The guidance from her father helped her to cross hurdles and release Rise which gained Grammy nominations.

With each innovative launch, she kept gaining attention and support. To her credit in 2012, Best Artist in the song lines Music Awards was won for her album Traveller. Moreover, in 2013 she was nominated for the third Grammy and in 2014, again she was nominated for the fourth Grammy in the Best world music albums category for Traces of You.
