Jitesh Sharma Family
Jitesh Sharma was born on 22 October 1993. His father Mohan Sharma who hails from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh is a businessman.
The cricketer’s mother’s name is Ashima Sharma. Jitesh also has a brother, Nitesh Sharma.

Controversies
In the 2023 IPL, it stirred a controversy when Jitesh was declared out following a controversial third umpire decision. On Sunday, April 30, a match was going on between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings.
It was the 19th over of the match and CSK’s Tushar Deshpande was the bowler. Jitesh, the batsman went for a big hit towards the long-on boundary. Though the fielder Shaik Rasheed somehow managed to catch the ball, he lost his balance and fell down near the boundary line.
Since it was doubtful whether Shaik had touched the boundary line or not, the decision was in turn referred to the third umpire. Though the third umpire declared Jitesh out, the Twitterati was divided about his controversial decision and many of them tweeted that he was in fact, not out.

During his childhood days, Jitesh was quite passionate about joining the defense forces and he aspired to become an air force officer. In fact, he was not interested in playing cricket and thus, never had a coach. As a kid, he learned cricket by watching YouTube videos, mainly Adam Gilchrist’s and Sourav Ganguly’s.
During those days, to appear for the National Defence Academy (NDA) exams, a minimum cut-off mark was required. As per the rules in Maharashtra, any sportsperson who has played till the state level was eligible to get 4% extra marks in the exams.
Thus, in order to get those extra marks, Jitesh tried his luck at cricket. However, his plan was to quit cricket once he clear the board exams. However, destiny had other plans., Amar More, Jitesh’s neighbor once saw him playing in a school cricket match. It was Amar who forced Jitesh to join a cricket club in Amravati.
In 2011, when he was 16 years of age, the teenager appeared for the district trials of the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) and got selected. Later he was picked for the Under-19 level, thus becoming the youngest player in the Vidarbha team.
At the 2012-13 Cooch Behar Trophy, Jitesh scored a total of 537 runs in 12 innings including 2 centuries and 1 fifty. It paved the way for the cricketer’s entry into the Vidarbha senior team and his debut in domestic cricket.
In early 2014, Jitesh played his first List A game against Rajasthan in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It was followed by his T20 debut against Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Towards the end of 2015, Jitesh made his debut in the Ranji trophy in the match against Odisha. Later, at the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he emerged as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 343 runs and a strike rate of 143.51.
At the IPL, Jitesh was bought by the Mumbai Indians franchise for the 2016 season, but unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to play even a single match. Later at the 2022 Indian T20 League, Jitesh was bought by Punjab Kings for his base price.
In the series, he scored a mammoth 234 runs in 12 matches with an excellent strike rate of 163.64. For the 2023 IPL season, Jitesh was retained by the Punjab franchise.
At the beginning of 2023, Jitesh got picked for the Indian national side in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, as a replacement for Sanju Samson. Subsequently, the cricketer was retained for the series against New Zealand as well.

- Jitesh found a mentor in Ruchir Mishra, a Nagpur-based cricket journalist. He was very close to him and Ruchir used to say that one day Jitesh will play for the national side. Unfortunately, Ruchir passed away during the Covid-19 times and Jitesh says that Ruchir will be feeling proud of him now.
- According to Jitesh, the quote that resonates with him is “If you want to shine like a sun, you have to burn like a sun”.
- At the school team selections, the selectors asked if anyone could keep the wickets. Jitesh raised his hands and thus he became a wicketkeeper. The cricketer remembers that prior to that he used to stand behind the stumps while playing with plastic ball in gully cricket.
- The first cricket match that Jitesh still remembers watching is the former Indian international cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s Natwest Series.
- According to Jitesh, the weirdest thing that he did as a child was climbing trees and trying to pull the monkey’s tail.
