In the 2023 IPL, it stirred a controversy when Jitesh was declared out following a controversial third umpire decision. On Sunday, April 30, a match was going on between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings.

It was the 19th over of the match and CSK’s Tushar Deshpande was the bowler. Jitesh, the batsman went for a big hit towards the long-on boundary. Though the fielder Shaik Rasheed somehow managed to catch the ball, he lost his balance and fell down near the boundary line.

Jitesh Sharma Profession

During his childhood days, Jitesh was quite passionate about joining the defense forces and he aspired to become an air force officer. In fact, he was not interested in playing cricket and thus, never had a coach. As a kid, he learned cricket by watching YouTube videos, mainly Adam Gilchrist’s and Sourav Ganguly’s.

During those days, to appear for the National Defence Academy (NDA) exams, a minimum cut-off mark was required. As per the rules in Maharashtra, any sportsperson who has played till the state level was eligible to get 4% extra marks in the exams.

Thus, in order to get those extra marks, Jitesh tried his luck at cricket. However, his plan was to quit cricket once he clear the board exams. However, destiny had other plans., Amar More, Jitesh’s neighbor once saw him playing in a school cricket match. It was Amar who forced Jitesh to join a cricket club in Amravati.

In 2011, when he was 16 years of age, the teenager appeared for the district trials of the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) and got selected. Later he was picked for the Under-19 level, thus becoming the youngest player in the Vidarbha team.

At the 2012-13 Cooch Behar Trophy, Jitesh scored a total of  537 runs in 12 innings including 2 centuries and 1 fifty. It paved the way for the cricketer’s entry into the Vidarbha senior team and his debut in domestic cricket.

In early 2014, Jitesh played his first List A game against Rajasthan in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.  It was followed by his T20 debut against Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Towards the end of 2015, Jitesh made his debut in the Ranji trophy in the match against Odisha. Later, at the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he emerged as the third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 343 runs and a strike rate of 143.51.

At the IPL, Jitesh was bought by the Mumbai Indians franchise for the 2016 season, but unfortunately, he didn’t get the chance to play even a single match. Later at the 2022 Indian T20 League, Jitesh was bought by Punjab Kings for his base price.

In the series, he scored a mammoth 234 runs in 12 matches with an excellent strike rate of 163.64. For the 2023 IPL season, Jitesh was retained by the Punjab franchise.

At the beginning of 2023, Jitesh got picked for the Indian national side in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, as a replacement for Sanju Samson. Subsequently, the cricketer was retained for the series against New Zealand as well.
