Veteran Malayalam Actor and Former MP Innocent, Passed Away At The Age Of 75

Innocent Vareed Thekkathala was a veteran Malayalam actor who was famously known as “Innocent” by the industry. He was also a member of parliament and died at the age of 75. The actor took his final breath at Kochi’s VPS Lakeshore Hospital on the 26th of March. According to the reports, it was confirmed that Innocent was struggling due to a cancer relapse. He was admitted to the Lakeshore Hospital one week before as he complained about an acute infection in the throat.
This former member of parliament and a celebrated actor from Doctor Pashupati was a cancer survivor. He got diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2012 and after three years, Innocent Vareed informed that he was free from cancer. He also wrote a book titled “Cancer Wardile Chiri” a.k.a. “Laughter in the Cancer Ward”. The book explained his experience of living with cancer for 2 years.
The remains of Innocent would be kept from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Kadavanthara’s Rajeev Gandhi Indoor Stadium. After that, it would be shifted to the Irinjalakkuda Municipal Hall and would be kept there from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. People can come and pay their respects during these hours. According to the official report, the St. Thomas Cathedral Church of Irinjalakkuda is finalized for the funeral service.
When the hospital where Innocent took his last breath talked in an interview, it said that the veteran actor was previously affected by Covid and then also faced many comorbidities. This included heart failure, multiple organ failure, and respiratory problems. He was provided pulmonary support during that time.
The news of the demise saddened the Malayalam movie fraternity and several celebrities put forward their emotions about it. Mollywood stars like Prithviraj Sukumaran and Dulquer Salmaan along with politicians Khushbu Sundar and Shashi Tharoor also mourned Innocent’s death.
In the tweet, Prithviraj wrote that this was the end of the iconic chapter and called Innocent a legend. The veteran actor last performed in the action-adventure movie by Prithviraj Sukumuran called “Kaduva”.
Taking to Instagram, the Sita Ramam star Dulquer Salmaan wrote that the industry has lost its brightest star and Innocent also made them laugh till they cried. He also wrote that the former MP had the best caliber and also called him a family member. Salmaan said that the deceased was like his uncle.
Shashi Tharoor took to Twitter and wrote that he is mourning the death of Innocent Vareed Thekkathala. He was not only an MP of Kerala but also a character actor and comedian. He said that Innocent was a brilliant actor and a fine person. Adding to his experience, Tharoor wrote that it was always a pleasure to talk to him.
Politician and actor – Khushbu Sundar also wrote a Twitter post and said that she is devastated as the industry lost a great actor. He was a true legend and an actor that showed immense talent. Innocent was a gem that everyone lost.
