Mayank Anurag Agarwal is an Indian international cricket player and a member of the Karnataka state team in domestic cricket. Popularly known by his nickname ‘Monk’, the cricketer was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the 2023 IPL auction.

Born on 16 February 1991, Mayank’s father’s name is Anurag Agarwal and his mother’s name is Savita Goyal Agarwal. Anurag Agarwal is the CEO and MD of Natural Remedies, a leading animal and human health care company, and Savita, a homemaker. Mayank Agarwal also has a brother by the name of Raj Kishan who is a former state-level cricketer.
Affair
It was at a Diwali party organized by their parents that the cricketer met Aashita Sood for the first time. Later the couple fell in love with each other and were in a relationship for more than 7 years. Mayank Agarwal proposed to Aashita at the London Eye, the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel situated at the South Bank of the River Thames in London.
Finally, the couple got married on 6th June 2018. Aashita is the daughter of Praveen Sood, the Director General of Police in Karnataka. A lawyer by profession, Aashita holds a degree in Master of Laws in Intellectual Property Law. On 8th December 2022, Mayank and Aashita became parents of a baby boy and they named him Aayansh.
Education
Mayank did his schooling at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bangalore. Later he enrolled at Jain University in Bangalore to pursue his college education. During his days of study, his teammates included the likes of K. L. Rahul, the current vice-captain of the Indian national cricket team, and Karun Nair, the Indian international cricketer.
Controversies
On Day 1 of the first test match held between India and South Africa in December 2021, Mayank was declared out following an unfortunate decision by the Decision Review System (DRS).
The cricketer was in excellent form and had scored 60 runs. In the over bowled by the South African pace bowler Lungi Ngidi, Mayank was caught in the crease by a delivery pitched on length. Though he tried to hit the ball, Mayank’s inside edge was beaten and the ball hit his knee-roll. There was a loud appeal and subsequently the South African captain Dean Elgar went for the DRS.
For the viewers, the ball seemed to be missing the leg stump. However, the tracker’s decision was against the batsman as it projected the ball to be hitting the top of the leg stump. Naturally, Mayank Agarwal was not happy and when asked about his dismissal at the end of the day, he said that he was not supposed to express his opinion and so he wants to leave it at that. He also commented that otherwise he will be in bad books and his money could be docked.
Profession
During his school days at Bishop Cotton, Mayank was part of the under-13 team. In 2008-09, he delivered a stunning performance in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy by scoring 432 runs in five matches. Later, the cricketer went on to become the top run-scorer for India in the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In the same year, he was awarded the ‘Man of the Series title in the Karnataka Premier League.
Mayank Agarwal scored his maiden triple century at the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, a smashing, unbeaten 304 against Maharashtra. With this match, he achieved the record of the 50th triple century scored in India’s first-class cricket.
On 26 December 2018, Mayank played his debut test match against Australia. He scored seventy-six runs in his first innings and bagged the record of the highest runs scored by an Indian cricketer in his Test debut in Australia. Two years later, on 5 February 2020, Mayank played his first One Day International match against New Zealand.
