Himachal Pradesh, popularly known as “Dev Bhoomi” i.e., the “Land of God” and “Veer Bhoomi” i.e., “Land of the Brave,” is situated in the northernmost region of India. The name of this state from the Sanskrit words Hima (Snow) and Achala (Mountain) clearly signifies that it is a state with natural beauty and lots of snowy mountains to be visited. Hamirpur is one of the most beautiful places to explore here. 

Hamirpur, formerly known as Trigarta, is located in the Hamirpur district near the hilly town of Kangra in the Himalayan state of India i.e., Himachal Pradesh. It is named after the famous king Raja Hamir Chand of the Katoch dynasty during 1700-1740 AD.

It is situated at an altitude of 780 meters with Awah Devi peak as its highest point at 1250 m altitude. This place is rich in culture, heritage, pleasant weather, and enchanting scenic beauty which is irresistible.

Best Places To Visit Near Hamirpur

Sujanpur Fort

Sujanpur Tira Fort is an old fort that was built in 1758 by the ruler Raja Abhay Chand of the Katoch Dynasty of Kangra. It is around 22 kilometers from the Hamirpur district close to the Kangra border.

During the 19th century, this fort served as a residence of Raja Sansar Chand, patron of the Kangra School of miniature paintings. This place has a lot of history involved such as wars, victories, etc. It is a must-visit place for history or art lovers. Additionally, it also has various adventure activities nearby such as trekking, paragliding, river rafting, etc. 

Beas River

Beas River, also spelled as Bias, is a river rising from central Himachal Pradesh and flowing to the Sutlej river of Punjab.

The total length of this river is 470 km along with a 20,303 square km large drainage basin. It is famous for the historic relevance of marking the great conquests of Alexander in 326 BC.

Rewalsar Lake

Rewalsar Lake, also called Tso Pema, is an important religious place for Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs. This lake is famous for its floating reed islands and fishes as it is believed that the floating reed fishes and islands have Padamasambhava’s spirit.

Skylark School of Paragliding is situated on Upper Bir Road near Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. It is clearly guessed from the name of the school that it is famous for the most adventurous sport i.e., Paragliding.

Gadda Gusaini Valley

Gadda Gusaini Valley is located in a very spectacular yet small village in the Banjar tehsil of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, India which is famous for the splendid day hikes. This beautiful valley has crystal clear water along with various colorful pebbles.

Lambloo

Lambloo is a popular tourist destination in Hamirpur because of the famous Shani Dev Temple. It is just 10 km from Hamirpur in Sarlin village. HP Hindu Public Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Act is a temple trust who managed this famous Shani Dev Temple.

A lot of Hindu devotees visit this place for worshipping at the temple and for the Tula Daan. It is fully crowded on weekends and on the Jayshtha Shanivaar. 

Gasota

On the Hamirpur-Jahu route, Gasota has located 9 km from Hamirpur. This location is well-known for two things in particular. The first one is the popular 400 years old ancient Lord Shiva Temple along a beautiful water stream flow.

Another famous thing is the festival of Gasota i.e., the Cattle Fair, which is held annually on the first Monday of the  Jayshtha month. It is a worth-visit place in Hamirpur.

Just 6 km away from Dera parol on the river banks of Kunah Khad in Hamirpur district is the religious place i.e., Markanda. This place is famous because of the spiritual Markandya Rishi.

As per the ancient Puranas, it is believed that the idol of Markandya Rishi was established here. The fair and the natural water spring of Markanda make it a more beautiful and worth visit place.

Baba-Balak-Nath

Baba Balak Nath Temple, also known as Deothsidh Temple is an old cave temple that is around 40 kilometers away from Hamirpur in Chakmoh village. The Hindu deity Sidh Baba Balak Nath is one of the most prominent worshiped in the Northern Indian states to whom this temple is dedicated.

Visit this place on Sundays or from 14th March to 13th April for seeing the proper culture of this temple.

Pandoh Dam

In the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, is an embankment dam on the famous Beas river i.e., the Pandoh Dam. It was completely constructed in the year 1977. The length of the dam is around 255 m with a height of 76 m.

The primary objective of this dam is to generate hydroelectric power and it also diverts the water of the Beas river to a different place. 

Best Time To Visit Hamirpur

Hamirpur can be visited throughout the year as it is located in the colder region on the western side of Himachal Pradesh with a low altitude. So, this town has pleasant weather almost every month of the year.

But, the most ideal time to visit Hamirpur is from the month of November to March. During these months, the temperature in this town ranges between 19° to 30° Celsius which makes pleasant weather for all the activities, sightseeing, and exploring this beautiful place. 

How To Reach Hamirpur?

In Himachal Pradesh, Hamirpur is a beautiful small town that is a perfect place for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle-bustle of daily life or just wants to take a trip. One can visit this small town of Himachal Pradesh via various modes of transportation such as roadways, railways, or airways.

By Airways: Airways is one of the fastest modes of transportation to reach Hamirpur. This beautiful town i.e, Hamirpur doesn’t have an airport of its own. So, the closest airport for reaching this place is the Kangra (Gaggal) Airport near Dharamshala which is around 83 km far away.

After reaching the airport, one can book a taxi or take a direct bus to their desired location which will take around 5 hours. 

By Railways: Hamirpur doesn’t have a railway station of its own as it is a small town in Himachal Pradesh. This mode of transportation is the most comfortable way and one can also enjoy the scenic beauty of Himachal on the train.

One can reach Hamirpur via the nearest railway station i.e., Una or Amb Railway Station, both of these stations are approximately 70-80 kilometers far away. One can also opt for the Kiratpur Sahib Railway Station. From the railway station, you can take a bus, auto, or cab for reaching the desired location. 

By Roadways: Travelling to Hamirpur through roadways is the cheapest and recommended way for everyone. Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (HPSRTC) takes care of the road connectivity of Hamirpur to various neighboring cities and states.

A lot of state public or private bus operators offer comfortable luxury bus services to Hamirpur at a reasonable cost. One can also opt for the road trip via own private vehicle with friends and family through the beautiful scenic route to Himachal Pradesh.
