Barmer Fort & Garh Temple

In 1552 AD, at a hillock in Barmer, the ruler Rawat Bhima build a fort named Barmer Fort. The top hill of the fort is around 1383 feet high which is considered a risky place than the 676 feet Barmer fort made by Rawat Bhima. He constructed a fort on the outskirts of the city, which became known as Barmer Garh.

The major attraction of the Barmer Fort and Garh Temples is their two famous temples i.e., Jogmaya Devi Mandir and Nagnechi Mata Temple having the most popular Navratri fair. It is a historic site that must be visited during the trip to Barmer.

Juna Fort & Temple

Juna is an ancient place that signifies the past glory, culture, and heritage of Barmer situated 25 km far away only. Basically, Juna is the old Barmer that was built during Rawat Bhima Rule by Bar Rao. Then, this ruler shifted Barmer to a new location i.e., the present place of Barmer. This place is renowned for its old fort and the Jain temple.

It was built during the 12th or 13th century as guessed through the inscriptions on the stone pillar near the temple. This is a beautiful place with beautiful hills and a lake in the surrounding.

Mahabar Sand Dunes – Barmer

Around 5 km far away from the Barmer in Rajasthan is another famous touristic place named Mahabar Sand Dunes. This place is popular among tourists for the spectacular sunset and sunrise spectacular views. Another major attraction here is their camel rides.

During the sunset and sunrise hours, you will experience the sun from such an angle of the horizon resulting in pretty gleaming sand with some sand lines on the dunes formed by the wind which will definitely enhance your experience at this place. Kiradu Temples

One of the major touristic temples in the middle of the Thar desert, 35 km from Barmer, Rajasthan is the Kiradu Temple. These are the most popularly known horror spots because of the spine-thrilling ancient stories that are linked with them. Khajuraho of Rajasthan, the group of temples signifies the Kiradu Temples being over 1500 years old.

One more thing that makes this place scarier is the curse to this place that no one can stay here after sunset if someone does so, then they will turn into a stone.

Chintamani Parasnath Jain Temple

During the 12th century, a beautiful temple was built on the Barmer city’s oat top of a hill rock to dedicate it to a Jain Tirthankara i.e., Lord Parasvanath. Chintamani Parasvanath Temple is also knonwn as ‘Shri Godisa Parshwanath Bhagwan Ka Mandir.’

The interior architectural style of this temple will make you fall in love with the place having glass inlay work of artisans, ornamental paintings, beautiful sculptures, and many more. It is a must-visit place in Barmer having 120 Lord Mahavira idols.

Vishnu Temple-Khed

Another amazing architectural place in Barmer is the Vishnu Temple. The Vishnu Temple is dedicated to Ranchhodraiji, situated in Khed, Barmer, Rajasthan, India. The temple is surrounded by crumbling walls on all sides of the temple.

The temple is guarded by the shrine having an image of Garuda i.e., the eagle at the gate. During the Navratri season, the temple is decked out in festive decor. Visit this marvelous piece of the beauty of Barmer.

Sun Temple – Devka

Sun Temple is situated along the Barmer-Jaisalmer road in Devka which is a small hamlet around 62 km away from Barmer city. The Sun Temple is renowned for its incredible architectural style and cleanliness which was built during the 12th or 13th century.

Two smaller temples that are mostly in ruins and contain stone statues of Lord Ganesha are located around the main Sun temple, which is perched on a height. It is undoubtedly a fantastic location for worship and learning about the Lord of Light’s past.

Shri Nakoda Jain Temple is one of the most popular religious sites in the Barmer of Rajasthan, India. This temple holds a lot of spiritual prominences worldwide for the jain people. Lord Nakoda is a black-colored idol who holds great religious significance for Jains. This temple is snugged in the dense forests amongst the Aravalli Hills.

Rani Bhatiyani Temple – Jasol

Rani Bhatiyani Temple is another religious place that is flocked by a lot of devotees throughout the year. This temple is situated on the Nakoda Balotra road in Jasol, which is around 100 km away from Barmer, Rajasthan, India.

This stunning temple is devoted to Mata Rani Bhatiyani. The materials, architecture, and scriptures of the Rani Bhatiyani Temple are taken from the Jain temple of Khed. It is believed that the goddess showers miraculous blessings on their devotees.

Safed Akhara / Sideshwara Mahadev Temple

Safed Akhara is one of the temple complexes with a garden having scenic beauty situated within the Siddheshwar Mahadev Temple. The garden is surrounded by beautiful flowers, trees, and some alluring bird species which enhances the beauty of this garden.

Best time to visit Barmer

The best time to visit Barmer is in the months of November, December, January, February, March, and early April. These months of the year are apt for exploring the beautiful Barmer district in Rajasthan as the weather is pleasant during these months. The temperature in these months ranges between 15° Celsius and 35° Celsius. 

How to reach Barmer?

Barmer is located in the western region of Rajasthan having a part of Thar Dessert. It is quite famous for its historical ruins and ancient stories. You can visit this place easily via various modes of transportation such as by air, by road, or by train.

  • By Air: Barmer doesn’t have an airport of its own. So, the nearest airport to Barmer is the Jodhpur Airport around 176 km far away. For international flights, one can choose the services of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. After reaching the airport, you can book a taxi or take a direct bus to the desired location. 
  • By Train: Barmer Railway station is not well-connected regularly with major states of our country. So, the nearest railway station that connects to almost every part of the country is the Balotra Junction i.e., 87 km far away. It is the cheapest way to reach Barmer. 
  • By Road: State-run buses link the town with most of the neighboring cities, including Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur, and other locations in Rajasthan, at the Barmer Bus Terminus, which is close to the railroad station. Buses run frequently and tickets are reasonably priced.
