Koppal is an attractive town in North Karnataka with an attractive environment and amusing history. Koppal is a beautiful and forthcoming tourist destination that is worth visiting. Koppal is surrounded on three sides by hills and was an important town in Karnataka’s history. It is also known as Kopana Nagara.

Anjanadri Parvata

Anjanadari Parvata is situated in the center of Anegondi Village close to Hampi, in the Koppal district in Karnataka. It is believed that this Anjanadari Parvata is the birthplace of Hanuman. This amazing Parvata offers a picturesque view as it is located in the center of the Anegondi area.

Chinthamani Temple Anegundi is the maternal home of Bhooma Devi. This place is popular as it is believed that throughout the Ramayana period, this was Kishkinda, the kingdom of Vaali and Sugreeva.

At Koppal, Koppal Fort was acquired by Tippu Sultan during 1786 AD which makes it a popular historical destination but not known definitely by whom it was constructed. In Koppal district, it is must visit place as this place is having a beautiful botanical garden.

The place comprises different watch towers, structures, and big walls which were built to safeguard the kingdom from Sultans. To explore this place, one should have ample time as there are several things to explore.

Krishnadevaraya Tomb

It is a mysterious place. There is nothing clear about this place. Locals suppose that there is a grave located in a mantap constructed in the middle of the Tunga-bhadra River at Anegundi that has a fort with different gates, a Durga temple, and tombs nearby to the fort entrance. In addition, locals believe that the 60-pillar mantap is the king’s tomb.

Kanakachalapathi Temple is an amazing temple devoted to the God Vishnu with beautiful surroundings and is an example of the Dravidian architecture of the Vijayanagara era. This beautiful temple was constructed by the ruling vassal polyagar.

Huligemma Temple (Huligi)

Huigemma Temple is located at Huligi, whereas Huligi is also named Munirabad. It is a good place to visit whereas, on Tuesday and Friday, you should avoid visiting here as there is a rush during these two days.

Mahadeva Temple (Itagi)

From Koppal, at a distance of nearly 26 km, Mahadeva Temple is an ancient and popular temple located with the finest architectural sculptures at Itagi in the Koppal district of Karnataka.

It is one of the popular tourist destinations near Hampi with well-executed sculptures, pillars, and finely crafted carvings on walls, and the tower makes it the finest example of complete Western Chalukyan art.

Although, it is a place that is away from the crowd. For a picturesque view, do visit during the evening time. This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and there is a tank behind the prime temple. Moreover, this is an amazing temple with a lot of marvelous carvings on the pillars of the front hall. 

Best Time To Visit Koppal

To visit Koppal, the best time is from October to March. The weather is good at this period of the year, with temperatures reaching 15 to 32 degrees Celsius. In addition, the season of monsoon is also a fascinating period to visit Koppal owing to the lush foliage and spectacular waterfalls. Summer temperatures can be tremendously high, thus it is prudent to avoid going throughout this period.

How To Reach Koppal? 

Koppal has outstanding flight, train, and bus connections. The closest airport is at Hubli at a distance of 100 kilometers. Tourists can also travel to the Bangalore International Airport.

Koppal has its own railway station, which is just nearly 2.5 kilometers away from the main tourist destinations. The Koppal bus station sees a stable flow of buses from dissimilar locations throughout the day.

By Road: By road, to arrive at Koppal Town, deluxe and semi-deluxe buses are accessible from all prime cities of Karnataka such as Hubli, Mangalore, Shimoga, and many more. 

By Train: Koppal is linked to the rest of the state through the Koppal railway station. 

By Air: The nearest airport to Koppal is Hubli and at a distance of nearly 155 km.
