Lalitpur: Explore The Historic And Ancient Heritage Of UP!

Lalitpur is a city you can visit while having history and heritage vacation plans on the northern side of the Indian territory. You can also consider visiting this place for the pilgrimage importance it owns.

This particular city is located in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in its district with the same name, Lalitpur. The city of Lalitpur is also the administrative headquarters of the same district enhancing its political value.

The city and the district of Lalitpur belong to the region called Bundelkhand in the state of Uttar Pradesh. 

During the ancient days, this particular city was under the reign of Rajputs. They were known by the name Bundela Rajputs since they ruled this specific region in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

These kings also have a significant role in the Indian struggle for Independence during colonial times. The contributions they made in the First War of Independence that happened in the year 1857 are still quite remarkable.

Tourism in this particular city in the state of Uttar Pradesh is mainly centred around the Hindu and Jain pilgrim centres that can be seen plenty in the territory of the city. Apart from that a lot of ancient monuments having aesthetic, architectural, and heritage importance can also be visited while travelling to this city for a vacation.

If you are looking for something quite serene and blissful in your Lalitpur vacation, this is the place to choose. From the city centre of Lalitpur, you may need to travel a distance of around 33 km in order to reach this destination. 

Mahavir Swamy Wildlife Sanctuary 

This particular wildlife sanctuary is also 33 km away from the main centre of the city of Lalitpur. Bird watchers can enjoy the most while travelling to this particular wildlife sanctuary.

Apart from the different species of birds found in the region, there are also a lot of wildlife varieties in the region. Some of the species attracting the attention of visitors are leopards, langurs, wild boars, and so on.

Muchkund Cave 

This particular cave in the city of Lalitpur is named after the king, Muchkund. There are a lot of legends about the king circulating in association with this cave. Inside the cave, you would also be able to see a Shiv Ling established by the same king.

You can also visit a Sri Krishna temple set up inside the cave. Another Shiv Ling can also be seen inside the cave believed to have been established by the Hindu Lord Sri Krishna. 

Rajghat Dam 

Even though this dam can be visited on your Lalitpur vacation, this is neither entirely located in the city of Lalitpur nor in the state of Uttar Pradesh. This dam has got shared ownership of two different Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

It is in the river called Betwa that this dam has been constructed. From the city centre of Lalitpur, you have to travel a distance of around 22 km in order to reach the destination of the dam. It was in the year 2006 that this dam got opened to the public. 

Mardan Singh Fort 

This is a historical monument you can visit and explore in the city of Lalitpur. This particular fort has been constructed on the banks of a picturesque lake accentuating its beauty and elegance.

This fort is named after the name of a king called Maharaja Mardan Singh who had ruled the region once. Visiting this lake is also an opportunity to indulge in the aesthetic view of the lake of Manasarovar. This fort is also known by the name Talbehat Fort since Talbehat is the exact geographical location of it. 

Dashavatar Temple 

This is a Hindu pilgrim destination you can visit while touring the city of Lalitpur in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Hindu God, Lord Vishnu is the main deity worshipped in this temple. As per the records available, this is an ancient temple and it has been established in the region in the 6th century.
