Suruli Falls is an attractive waterfall in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu and this is one of the foremost tourist places to visit in Theni.

Sothuparai Dam

Another well-enjoyed tourist destination in Theni is the Sothuparai Dam, which was built over the Varaha River. The track leading to the dam is one of its most fascinating features.

Mavuthu

A foremost tourist lure of Theni, Mavuthu is prevalent for a Hindu shrine enthusiastic to Lord Vinayaka. The temple is called Velapar Temple and is suspended on Varushanad Hill.

Tirtha Thotti

Theertha Thotti is nearly 19 km from Theni and just 2 km from Periyakulam. It falls on the road to Bodinayakkanur from Theni on the National Highway of Madurai–Kochi. It is a prevalent pilgrimage center as Lord Subramaniam Temple is located there.

This temple is nearly 1000 years old. Theertha Thotti means holy water tub. It is a natural spring enclosed by neem and bright trees. Amongst these trees is a tank named Theertha Thotti. This tank is a usual spring that has never gone dry and is measured holy. 

Kumbakkarai Waterfall

Situated in the Dindigul district nearby Theni in Tamil Nadu, Kumbakkarai Falls is a mesmerizing waterfall that is located at the foothills of the Kodaikanal hills. The water falls down in two layers- at the first stage, the water gathers at the rock boulders and recesses.

And in the 2nd stage, it falls down the layer of rocks. These recesses are called after wild animals like snakes, elephants, cheetahs, tigers, and many more. Besides boasting of enormous scenic beauty and the melodious tampering of the gushing waters, the place also proposes utter peace and tranquility.

The prevalent tourist spot is the most crowded throughout the rainy season when the water level is high and the neighboring locations glow with greenery. There is also a Murugan statue connected at the spot.

Meghamalai Hills, located on the Western Ghats, is 70 km away from Theni. It is located at a height of nearly 500 ft above sea level. The location is rich in natural vegetation and wildlife. There are more than 100 species of birds found around this area.

This is a prevalent spot for bird watchers. The Tamil Nadu government has supposed a wildlife sanctuary here to preserve biodiversity. The Meghamalai Hills are home to different animals, reptiles, and butterflies as well.

You can spot a  Nilgiri tahr, leopard,  wild boar, tiger, Nilgiri langur,  gaur, sloth bear, porcupine,  smooth-coated otter, flying squirrel spotted deer,  barking deer, common langur,  bonnet macaque, sambar deer, lion-tailed macaque, grey junglefowl, and many more animals. 

Vaigai Dam

Support for the districts of Madurai and Dindigul both as a source of irrigation and drinking water, Vaigai Dam is also an eccentric destination for picnics and chance afternoon visits with friends and family.

Situated across the Vaigai River in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu, Vaigai Dam is a foremost source of irrigation water for the Madurai district as well as the Dindigul district. The dam also carries drinking water to Madurai and Andipatti.

Due to its 174,000,000 cubic meter volume, the Tamil Nadu government has also built an Agricultural Research Station for research and cultivation of variability of crops involving rice, sorghum, black gram, cowpea, and cotton.

The Sani Temple, being one of the temples only dedicated to Lord Sani without the other associated planets or a temple’s reigning god, is what makes Kuchanur prominent. It’s thought that Lord Sani physically displayed in Swayambhu or that he did so instinctively.

Because of this, the place carried the name Kuchanur, which was ultimately changed to Kanjanoor, one of Lord Sani’s names. 

Additionally, Kuchanur is home to the Lord Guru-enthusiastic Vadaguru Temple, which faces north. Legends claim that Lord Indra proposed homage to the god of this antique temple.

The Kailasanathar Temple Cave is located near Suruli Falls. The Temple cave stands at an altitude of 800 m above sea level. In the Tamil epic Silappathikaram, it is said that festivals were shown in the Kailasanathar Temple Cave throughout Aadi, Thai, and Chithtirai.

The beautiful temple has a natural spring that is measured to have medicinal belongings. In close vicinity to the temple cave is a Dargah called after the 17th century Muslim Saint Abubacker Masthan. On Saturdays, supporters carry pots of milk to this beautiful temple. 

Chinna Suruli Waterfall

Situated in the lap of wild, green forests, Chinna Suruli Falls is an attractive destination to visit from Theni. It falls all the way down from Meghamalai to form a pool of cool, glittering water at the foothills of the mountain.

Located nearly 55 kilometers away from the main center, nearby the Kombaithozhu village, Chinna Suruli Falls is a beautiful and serene location to visit in and around Theni. It can be involved in your itinerary of local sightseeing if you are visiting Theni and its neighboring attractions.

Bodi Mettu

The attractive hill town of Bodi Mettu is situated in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district. It is situated at a height of nearly 4500 feet above sea level on the Western Ghats’ slopes. Hundreds of visitors visit this attractive tourist destination each year to calm in the tranquillity of this hill town. The wildlife and vegetation of this beautiful are plentiful.

Best Time To Visit Theni 

Theni is well known for having a salubrious climate during the year. The average temperature varies between 15 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius. The best months to arrive are from the month of December to February since the weather is enjoyable and enables you to indulge in a number of outdoor activities.

How To Reach Theni? 

By Air: The airport in Madurai, which is nearly 85 kilometers away from Theni, is the nearest one. You may rent a cab from the airport to get to Theni once you are there.

By Train: Theni is easily reachable by train thanks to its railroad station, which connects it to all the main cities and villages in the state. However, the two major railway connections nearest to the town, Madurai and Dindigul, are for individuals coming from neighboring states and are detached from it by 74 km and 76 km, correspondingly. One may rent a cab or a local bus to get from the railway stations to Theni.

By Road: The road system makes it far too convenient to go to Theni by plane, rail, or both. The town has outstanding road and national highway connections to different places, involving Madurai, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, and Tiruchirappalli. There are both commercial and local Tamil Nadu state buses available, from such locations to Theni.
