Pooja Bhatt is an Indian film actress, director, and producer who works in the Hindi film industry. She made her acting debut with the 1989 television film ‘Daddy’. The actress rose to fame after acting in movies such as ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’, ‘Zakhm’ and ‘Sadak’.
Pooja turned director with the film ‘Paap’ in 2004 and later directed movies including Holiday and Dhokha. Pooja also owns a production company and has produced films such as Tamanna, Zakhm, and Dushman.

Pooja Bhatt Family

Pooja was born on 24 February 1972 to Bollywood film director Mahesh Bhatt and Loraine Bright, who changed her name to Kiran Bhatt after marriage. Later, Pooja’s father parted ways with her mother and remarried Soni Razdan, an actress. Pooja has a biological brother Rahul and two step-sisters Alia and Shaheen.

Pooja fell in love for the first time with Manish Makhija, a VJ and restaurateur. After dating for two months, the couple got married in 2003. Later, in 2014, Pooja parted ways with Manish.
The actress was in a live-in relationship with actor Ranvir Shorey later. However, it went sour and the affair between the two soon came to an end. Post that Pooja was in a serious relationship with Sohail Khan. Though the couple had marriage plans, it did not materialize.

Pooja stirred controversy when she appeared on the cover page of Stardust magazine’s February 1994 issue. The actress who was seated on the lap of her father Mahesh Bhatt was seen sharing a liplock with him. Mahesh later called a press conference and stated that if Pooja had not been his daughter, he would have married her.
In 2023 September, Pooja was asked about her infamous kiss in an interview. The actress replied that it was an absolutely innocent moment that was captured. She went on to say that people can interpret a father-daughter relationship in a different way and they can do anything.

At the early age of 5, Pooja appeared in a television commercial for Pears soap. Years later, the 17-year-old Pooja made her acting debut with ‘Daddy’, a 1989 television film directed by her father Mahesh Bhatt. For her first film, she went on to win the Filmfare Award for ‘Best Female Debut’.
Pooja shot to fame after acting in the 1991 film ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. She was cast opposite Aamir Khan in the movie. Later, Pooja went on to act in several films such as Sadak, Junoon, Jaanam, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Sir, Guneghar, Tadipaar, Naaraaz, Hum Dono, Angrakshak, Chaahat, Tamanna, Border, and Zakhm.
In 1996, Pooja launched ‘Pooja Bhatt Productions’, her own production company. She produced the film ‘Tamanna’ under the banner with Paresh Rawal and Pooja herself playing the lead roles. Later, the actress went on to produce films such as Zakhm, and Dushman.
In 2004, Pooja ventured into film direction and her directorial debut was ‘Paap’, with John Abraham and Udita Goswami in the lead roles. The other movies directed by Pooja include Holiday, Dhokha, Kajraare and Jism 2.
In 2020, Pooja staged a comeback to acting with ‘Sadak 2’, a sequel to the hit film Sadak. The following year, she was seen in the web series ‘Bombay Begums’ streamed on Netflix. Later, in 2023 Pooja joined as a contestant in ‘Bigg Boss OTT 2’, a reality show, and emerged as the fourth runner-up.

- In the initial days of her career, Pooja earned Rs, 3,000 for a photo shoot for a soap and Rs.300 for a newspaper ad. The actress’s father Mahesh later recollected in an interview that it was she who managed their household when he had nothing.
