Prajakta Koli is an Indian YouTuber, blogger, and actress. She owns the YouTube channel ‘MostlySane’ and is best known for her comedy videos. The Youtuber also owns a website by the same name where she posts her blogs.

When it comes to acting, her major appearances include ‘Mismatched’, a Hindi web series streamed on Netflix, and ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’, a Hindi film directed by Raj Mehta.

Prajakta Koli holds the distinction of being UNDP India’s first Youth Climate Champion and has also attended the World Economic Forum held in Davos. She is one of the most popular YouTubers in India with a massive subscriber count of 6 million.

Education

Prajakta did her schooling at Vasant Vihar High School in Thane. Later, she joined V G Vaze College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Mulund and completed her Bachelor of Mass Media.

Controversies

Once Prajakta posted a reel on Instagram and the content was about ‘irritating kids who are let loose at weekend dinners in restaurants’. However, it stirred controversy and some of the mothers found her content offensive. 

The New Indian Express published the opinions of various people on this matter. One of the moms slammed Prajakta for terming kids as ‘bhooto jaisa’ (like evil spirits) whereas another person was of the view that the YouTuber needs to be more responsible for her content.

When she was a kid, Prajakta loved visiting her grandparents in Mulund. During those days, her grandparents had an old transistor and they used to play FM channels all day.

Though all others at home were interested in listening to songs, Prajakta loved to listen to the presentation by radio jockeys. At school, the YouTuber used to be an active participant in debates and elocutions. Eventually, Prajakta was picked as a school prefect.

By the time she turned 11, Prajakta had made up her mind that she will pursue the career of a radio jockey. Later, at college, she used to do theatre and anchoring. Immediately after her graduation, the YouTuber joined the FM channel Fever 104 as an intern.

After a year of internship, Prajakta anchored her first show ‘Call Centre’, a 12 am to 2 am show. However, the show flopped and gradually she realized that she was not cut out for the job of a radio jockey.

During her internship days, Prajakta once happened to meet Sudeep Lahiri who accompanied Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan. It proved to be the turning point in her life. Sudeep who later joined as Vice-president – Content and Strategies at One Digital found Prajakata quite impressive and suggested she give it a try on YouTube.

Thus, on 10th 2015, she launched her YouTube channel and as per Sudeep’s suggestion, Prajakta started creating comedy videos. Subsequently, one of her videos on hilarious words used by Delhi people went viral. Soon, her YouTube channel’s subscriber count saw a huge jump from a scanty 2000 in June to a whopping 30,000 in August.

Eventually, Prajakta became popular and went on to perform at the YouTube FanFest held in Delhi in 2018 and in Mumbai in 2019. Prajakta announced the debut of “Pretty Fit” in 2020, her YouTube Originals program where she conducts interviews with stars like Kareena Kapoor, Neha Kakkar, Mithila Palkar, and Sumukhi Suresh.

When it comes to acting, Prajakta made her debut with a short film, Khayali Pulao in July 2020. In the same year, in November, she acted in the Netflix series ‘Mismatched’. In 2022, Prajakta appeared in her first movie ‘ Jugjugg Jeeyo’ and portrayed the character of Ginny.

The YouTuber’s upcoming projects include the film ‘Neeyat’ where she is cast alongside Vidya Balan and Ram Kapoor, ‘Yeh Shaadi Nahi Ho Sakti’ – a Zee Theatre teleplay and ‘Unseen’- a horror show that is all set to release on Amazon Prime video in the first half of 2023.  

Prajakta has a long list of prestigious honors and awards to her credit. In 2018, she was invited to represent India at the YouTube ‘Creators for Change’ program that took place at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, United States.

She was also named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, Outlook Business Magazine’s Women of Worth list, and Entrepreneur India’s 35 Under 35 list. Prajakta has also been a recipient of Cosmopolitan’s YouTuber of the Year award and the “Star Influencer Award” by Femina India.

• Once Prajakta shared an emotional note on Instagram about how her father worked double shifts while he was employed at the canteen of Cadbury company.
