Suvarnadurg Fort

Suvarnadurg Fort is positioned on a slight and lavish green island in the Arabian Sea, neighboring Harnai in Konkan, sideways to the West Coast of India, across the Indian State of Maharashtra.

Construction of the amazing fort is accredited to Shivaji, founder of the Maratha Empire, during 1660. The basic goal of introducing the fort was to counter the invader attacks, majorly by the colonialists of Europe and also by the local chieftains.

The fort was likely constructed by the Bijapur Kings during the 17th century. Grasped and strengthened by Shivaji, it became a throttlehold of the Maratha Navy and continued with the Peshwas till 1818 AD.
