Born Nalini Saraf, Seema Deo was an Indian actress who worked in Marathi and Hindi films. In her career, Seema acted in over 80 films and some of her notable works in Marathi include Jagachya Pathivar and Vardakshina.
She also became part of several Hindi films such as ‘Anand’, ‘Kora Kagaz’, ‘Bhabhi Ki Chudiyan’, ‘Apradh’, ‘Bezubaan’, ‘Janaki’, ‘Koshish’, ‘Sansar’ and ‘Yehi Hai Zindagi.’ The actress was last seen in ‘Jivan Sandhya’, a Marathi movie released in 2021. Seema passed away on 24th August 2023 and she was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Seema Deo Family
Seema hails from a Goud Saraswat Brahmin family in Karnataka. However, the actress was born and brought up in Girgaum, Mumbai. The names of her parents are not available in the public domain.
Seema Deo Relationships
Seema met actor Ramesh Deo for the first time while traveling on a local train. Ramesh had an instant connection with Seema as the smell of mogra that she was wearing in her hair attracted him. Soon, Seema’s mother got to know about Ramesh’s liking for her daughter and started monitoring her closely.
Eventually, Ramesh proposed to Seema by driving a bullock cart away from her mother’s sight. Seema agreed to his proposal and the couple were in a relationship for four years. Finally, Seema got married to Ramesh in 1963.
Seema is survived by two sons, actor Ajinkya Deo and Abhinay Deo, a director. Ajinkya has acted in films such as Sansaar, Indrajeet, and Aan: Men at Work. On the other hand, Abhinay is known for directing the movies Delhi Belly and Force.

In her early days, Seema never thought that she would enter the field of acting. She wanted to study and was quite passionate about dance. However, when Seema turned 16, people told her mother to let her daughter give a try in films. Thus, the teenager attended a screentest and got a chance to act in movies.
Seema’s guru in films was Rajabhau Paranjpe, the renowned actor and director. It was Raja who taught her how to use body language and words. Thus, Seema started acting in films and played the role of Rajni in the film ‘ Miya Bibi Razi’ and a blind young girl in ‘Jagachya Pathivar’, a Marathi movie.
Subsequently, she portrayed a small role in the 1960 film ‘Aanchal’, directed by Vasant Joglekar. During that time, Seema got a call from renowned Hindi director Bimal Roy’s office. He wanted to cast her in his upcoming film ‘Prem Patra’. As soon as Bimal got to know that Seema was Raja Paranjape’s mentee, he signed her for the movie.
Seema got a major break in her career with ‘Prem Patra’, released in 1962. It was followed by films such as Molkarin, Dus Lakh, and Saraswatichandra. In 1971, Seema and her husband Ramesh played the roles of onscreen husband and wife in the Hrishikesh Mukherjee-directed blockbuster movie ‘Anand’.
Later, Seema went on to act in several hit films such as Koshish, Kashmakash, Kora Kagaz, and Sansar. However, in the mid-90s the actress took a sabbatical from acting for close to 15 years. Later, in 2010, she made a comeback with “Jeta”, the debut directorial film of her son Ajinkya.

- Seema once played the character of a blind woman. Since she did not have money to buy lenses, the actress blinked her eyes while playing that role.
