Sumukhi Suresh: Know More About Indian Stand-Up Comedian!

Sumukhi Suresh is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and showrunner from India. Best known for the humorous sketches that she writes, Suresh was referred to as “India’s Tina Fey” by Hindustan Times.

She shot to fame after playing the role of Behti – a 10-year-old girl in ‘Behti Naak’, a comedy sketch featuring her. Another popular work from Suresh is ‘Better Life Foundation’ – India’s first mockumentary-style YouTube series where she worked with Naveen Richard. On social media platforms, Sumukhi Suresh is quite popular with a massive 2,43,000 followers on Instagram and 1,46,000 followers on Facebook.

Sumukhi Suresh Suresh was born on 18 October 1987. She was raised in Nagpur, although her mother is from Tamil Nadu.

The names of her parents are not available in the public domain. Suresh has two older brothers as well. On her Instagram profile, she once shared a photograph of her siblings with the caption “ I have 2 elder brothers to protect”.

In an interview with the ‘New Indian Express’, Sumukhi Suresh revealed that she moved to Bangalore for a guy with whom she was pretty obsessed. She also said that in her case, the drama follows her on most occasions and it ends up contributing to the content.

In an interview with Man’s World India, Sumukhi Suresh said that she was extremely big during her school days and was bullied. According to her, a person who looks a bit different from normal people will be bullied at one point or the other. She went on to add that fat people are generally told that they don’t deserve a certain attraction or certain love.

In 2009, Sumukhi Suresh shifted to Bangalore and started working at a children’s library by the name ‘Hippocampus’. Later, she worked in different roles ranging from a chef to an employee at a food laboratory and also ran a bakery.

While working at the laboratory, Suresh joined ‘The Improv’, an improvisational comedy show. She was a part of around 100 shows and performed along with the team in various cities including Sweden. In 2015, Suresh bid goodbye to her full-time job to pursue a career in comedy.

‘Anu Aunty- Engineering Anthem’ was her first video which she did with Varun Agarwal. It was followed by the Maid Sketch with Sanjay Manaktala. Suresh gained popularity after she played the character of ‘Sumukhi Chawla’, an NGO employee at Better Life Foundation.

Her other works that became instant hits include “Disgust Me” a by-invite, women-only stand-up comedy show, and ‘Behti Naak’ which streamed on her own YouTube channel.

In 2017 Sumukhi Suresh was approached by Amazon to come up with a web series. Thus, it led to the birth of ‘Pushpavalli’, a television comedy-drama series created by her. Premiered on 15 December 2017 on Amazon Prime, the series received fantastic reviews from the audience.

Following the roaring success of ‘Pushpavalli’, Suresh was approached by Amazon for the second time to create ‘Don’t tell Amma’ a one-hour web show that also turned out to be quite popular.

Sumukhi Suresh’s other major works that deserve a special mention include Prime Video’s web series ‘ Comicstaan’s first season which he hosted alongside comedian Abish Mathew and her role in the 2018 Kannada movie ‘Humble Politician Nograj’. She has also established ‘Motormouth’, a company she started with the aim of writing shows, movies, and stories based on flawed female characters.

• Sumukhi Suresh has decided that she will die at the age of 65. According to her, it is a great time to die as she doesn’t want to go through major things in life such as having kids. Regarding her decision not to have kids, the actress said that she doesn’t want to mess them up.

• Sumukhi Suresh feels most excited when she is on stage, but when she is acting in front of the camera, she is strangely the calmest.

• Sumukhi Suresh once disclosed that she was panicked about the thought of wearing a saree on screen. She was scared about the thought that her waist will be shown.

• She would love to become an all-rounder like Andrew Flintoff, the former international cricketer from England.
