Suyash Sharma

Profession

In his initial days, Suyash Sharma was a student of Suresh Batra, the former Delhi spinner and the person who had groomed Virat Kohli in his early days. Suyash used to play for Suresh鈥檚 club and it was Suresh who first identified the cricketing talent in the teenager.

In 2016, Suresh called up former Delhi cricketer Kartar Nath and told him about a very promising leg spinner, Suyash. At that point in time, Kartar was handling Dena Bank鈥檚 team for the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) League and was in the process of picking talented, budding cricketers for the tournament. Kartar obliged Suresh鈥檚 request and called the young boy Suyash for a trial. After the trials, Kartar was quite impressed by the teenager鈥檚 X – factor and the enormous amount of turn generated by his googly.

Subsequently, Suyash got picked for the Dena Bank team and thus he got a chance to play in the DDCA League. In the league matches, the cricketer delivered a stellar performance by taking many wickets posing trouble for the top batsmen.聽

Suyash continued playing for the Dena Bank team, but he was struggling to advance to the next level. Though Kartar strongly advocated for his trainee, he failed to convince the selectors at DDCA. In 2019, Suyash was quite close to getting an entry into the Under-19 team for the state, but he was rejected due to the reason that he did not have a birth certificate. Thus, the youngster lost the opportunity to play for the state that year.

In the following years, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic proved to be a major roadblock for Suyash as cricketing events were halted for a long period. Unfortunately, when the action resumed in 2019, Suyash didn鈥檛 even get a call for the trials at DDCA. For the cricketer, there was no option of playing for the Dena Bank team also as they had dissolved the team after the bank’s merger with Bank of Baroda. Thus, Kartar made Suyash play league for Madras Club.聽

Suyash Sharma played exceedingly well at the Madras Club and it paved the way for the cricketer getting a call for the Delhi Under-25 trial in 2022. Suyash鈥檚 performance on the Under-25 team grabbed the attention of both Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders. Though he attended the selection trials for both teams, Suyash was finally bought by KKR for a base price of Rs.20 lakhs at the mini-auction held in December 2022.

In his debut match for KKR, Suyash played as the team鈥檚 designated impact player replacing Venkatesh Iyer. He took 3 wickets in the match including RCB鈥檚 big hitter Dinesh Karthik, impact player Anuj Rawat and Karn Sharma.

Suyash Sharma

Source Of Income

Reportedly, Suyash鈥檚 net worth stands at $50,000. He also earns income by endorsing leading brands such as Nike, MRF, and Pepsi.

Lesser Known Facts About Suyash Sharma

  • When he got a call for the U-25 trial, Suyash came to know that his father was diagnosed with liver cancer. Madras Club coach Randhir Singh recollects those times when Rahul Sanghvi, the current team manager of Mumbai Indians came into the youngster鈥檚 life like an angel. It was Rahul who helped Suyash鈥檚 father get treatment in Mumbai and also got the teenage cricketer a chance to attend the trial with Mumbai Indians.
  • Suyash鈥檚 elder brother supported him a lot. Though he also used to play local cricket, he made sure that Suyash Sharma continued his game.
  • When asked in an interview about Eden Garden cricket ground鈥檚 pitch not being favorable for spinners in recent years, Suyash Sharma replied that during the trial matches he found the pitch at Eden Gardens to be quite supportive and there was more bounce than the Delhi pitches.
  • In May 2021, Suyash鈥檚 coach Suresh Batra passed away. During those times, Suyash who hails from a middle-class family was struggling in his career, and with his coach鈥檚 demise, his family had lost all hope. One day, at the academy, Suyash approached Kartar and said that his mother wants to speak to him. In fact, the young cricketer鈥檚 mother wanted her son to stop playing cricket. However, Kartar requested Suyah鈥檚 mother to wait for two more years and if nothing happens, he himself will send the teenager back home.
  • In 2019, when Suyash failed to get selected for the cricket team, he shaved his head. Since then, he has not cut his hair to date. Once he told Kartar that he will not cut his hair till the time he achieves something in life. However, after Suyash鈥檚 remarkable performance at IPL, Kartar called him and told him that long hair suits him and to stay away from cutting it.聽
  • When Suyash was denied selection for the state team citing the reason that he didn鈥檛 possess a birth certificate, his coaches lost their cool. However, on contacting Suyash鈥檚 parents, they said that they never expected their son to get an opportunity to represent Delhi and thus they have never been bothered about his birth certificate.
