Swastika Mukherjee is an Indian actress who works majorly in Bengali and Hindi television serials and films. She made her debut in acting with the Bengali television series ‘Devdasi’. Later, Swastika entered the silver screen with the Bengali movie ‘Hemanter Pakhi’ released in 2001.

The actress forayed into Hindi with the 2008 film ‘Mumbai Cutting’. Swastika has a massive fan following on social media platforms with 2.1 million followers on Facebook and 1.4 million followers on Instagram.

Swastika Mukherjee Family

Swastika was born on 13th December 1980. Her father the Late Santu Mukhopadhyay was an acclaimed Bengali actor who worked in films such as ‘Sansar Simante’ and ‘Bhalobasa Bhalobasa’.

Swastika’s mother’s name is Gopa Mukherjee. The actress has a sister Ajopa Mukherjee, who works as a costume designer.

Relationships

At the early age of 18, Swastika got married to singer Pramit Sen. It was an arranged marriage and the couple later welcomed their daughter Anwesha in 2000. However, Swastika’s marriage with Pramit lasted only for two years. After their divorce, the actress started dating Jeet, an actor.

With the turn of events, the actor couple had a breakup. In 2011, Swastika started dating Dibyendu, her costar in the film Nondinee. While she was in that relationship, Swastika became close to director Srijit Mukherji. Later, she parted ways with Srijit and the actress started dating director Suman Mukhopadhyay.

Eventually, her affair with Suman came to an end and Swastika entered into a relationship with actor Parambrata Chatterjee. However,  later the star couple had a breakup as Swastika’s estranged husband filed a case against Parambrata.

Education

Swastika did her schooling at three different schools, Carmel School, Kolkata, St. Teresa’s Secondary School, and Gokhale Memorial School. Later, the actress completed her graduation in history from Jadavpur University in Kolkata.

Controversies

In July 2023, Swastika stirred a controversy when she commented on actor Anupam Kher, who is playing the role of legendary poet Rabindranath Tagore in an upcoming film. The actress took a dig at Anupam by tweeting that nobody should play Rabindranath Tagore and urged everyone to leave that person alone.

Soon, Anupam strongly responded to Swastika’s comment by stating that people want to be noticed for their negative views instead of their work. The actor also asked sarcastically whether the concerned person is Tagore’s spokesperson.

Swastika Mukherjee Profession

While she was studying at Jadavpur University, Swastika made her acting debut with the Bengali television serial ‘Devdasi’. It happened by chance as Tanushree Shankar, Swastika’s dance teacher wanted her to do that role. Soon, Swastika went on to act in serials such as ‘Akasher Niche’ and ‘Protibimbo’.

The actress appeared for the first time in a film with the 2001 movie Hemanter Pakhi directed by Urmi Chakraborty. However, Swastika rose to fame after portraying the lead role of Mamata in the film ‘Mastan’, released in 2004. Later, in 2008, the actress made her debut in the Hindi film industry with ‘Mumbai Cutting’. 

In her career, Swastika has worked along with actor Jeet in several films such as Mastan, Kranti, Sathihara, Priyotoma, Krishnakanter Will, Pitribhumi, and Partner. The other movies from Swastika include Tasher Ghawr, Dil Bechara, Guldasta, Shrimati, and Qala.

The upcoming project from Swastika is ‘Nikhoj’, a web series in which the actress plays the role of Brinda Basu, the DCP of Lalbazar, Kolkata. Directed by Ayan Chakraborti, Swastika is cast opposite Tota Roy Choudhury in the web series.

  • People who are close to the actress call her by the nickname ‘Bhebli’. It was her father Santu Mukherjee who gave Swastika that name.
  • In the 2012 hit film ‘Bhooter Bhabhishyat’, Swastika played the character of Kadalibala Dasi, an actress ghost. While dubbing for the film, the actress was holding her nose throughout to get that nasal tone.
