Tilak Varma Family
Tilak was born on 8 November 2002. His father Namboori Nagaraju works as an electrician with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited and his mother Gayatri Devi is a housewife.
The cricketer’s elder brother Tarun Varma completed his B.Tech degree and has also played badminton at the national level.

During his childhood days, little Tilak used to play cricket with a plastic bat and tennis ball. However, at school, he was quite interested in athletics and also took part in state-level competitions.
Later 11-year-old Tilak was spotted by cricket coach Salam Bayash and it proved to be a turning point in his life. Then, Salam was running the Legala Cricket Academy. Once he came across little Tilak playing tennis ball cricket with his friends at the Barkas ground.
Salam who was quite impressed by the boy’s style of batting, spoke to Tilak’s father Nagaraju, and asked him to enrol his son at his academy. However, Nagaraju was reluctant initially as financial constraints did not permit him to let his son play cricket.
However, Salam promised Nagaraju that he would arrange the transport facility for his son and also waive the fees at the cricket academy. Finally, Nagaraju was convinced and it paved the way for Tilak to join the academy.
Under the guidance of Salam, Tilak became an active participant in school tournaments and cricket clubs. By 2016, the young lad got an opportunity to play for Hyderabad in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories.
The following year, he represented the state at the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. A terrific performance in the Under-19 and CK Nayudu Under-23 tournaments helped Tilak secure a berth in the Hyderabad senior team.
On 30th December 2018, the youngster made his first-class debut for Hyderabad at the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. A few months later, i.e. on 28 February 2019, Tilak made his Twenty20 debut for the state at the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It was followed by the youngster’s List A debut. On 28 September 2019, Tilak represented Hyderabad in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
A significant achievement in Tilak’s cricketing career, in December 2019, the youngster got a call for the Indian team for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Later, at the auctions held for the 2022 IPL tournament, Tilak was bought by the Mumbai Indians for an astronomical sum of Rs. 1.7 crore.
Some of the remarkable performances in Tilak’s career include scoring 180 runs in five matches and taking four wickets at the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2021-22 season. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament, Tilak went on to score a brilliant 215 runs with a strike rate of 147.26 runs per match.
