Ashok Selvan is an Indian actor who works primarily in Tamil films. He started his career as an assistant director to director S. J. Surya. Later, in 2013, Ashok appeared in one of the lead roles in ‘Soodhu Kavvum’, a Tamil film directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy.

However, the actor rose to fame after acting in movies such as Pizza II: Villa and Thegidi. In 2021, Ashok debuted in Telugu films with ‘Ninnila Ninnila’. In the same year, the actor entered the Malayalam film industry with ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’, an epic film directed by Priyadarshan.

Earlier, rumors were abuzz that Ashok was in a relationship with a US-based woman. Though several photographs of the couple surfaced on the internet, Ashok remained tightlipped about the matter. Later, the actor started dating Keerthi Pandian, the daughter of Tamil actor-producer Arun Pandian. On 13 September 2023, the actor couple tied the knot in a private wedding function held in Itteri, Tirunelveli, the native place of Keerthi.

The actor did his schooling at Santhome Higher Secondary School in Chennai. Later, he joined Loyola College and completed his graduation in Visual Communication.

In December 2022, Blue Sattai Maran, a film director, and social commentator severely criticized Ashok by stating that he was the actor who delivered the most flops in that year. However, within moments, Ashok took to Twitter and gave a befitting reply to Maran’s comments. The actor in his tweet urged to ignore the barking dogs and keep moving forward. Ashok’s tweet was accompanied by the hashtag ‘Selfmade’.

During his college days, the 19-year-old Ashok turned story writer and director for ‘Green’, his first short film. It went on to win the Best Film award at the 2012 International Tamil Thoth Conference held in Singapore. When he was in his second year of college, the youngster also got a chance to appear in a small role in the 2012 movie ‘Billa 2’. Ashok played the younger version of superstar Ajith in the film. 

Before making his mark as an actor in the Tamil film industry, Ashok worked as an assistant director for S.J.Suryah. Though he also appeared in a few commercials as well, Ashok got a break after acting in ‘Soodhu Kavvum’, a black comedy movie directed by Nalan Kumarasamy.

The film turned out to be a commercial success and the actor received rave reviews for his performance. It was followed by a lead role in Pizza II — Villa and Thegidi. Ashok later went on to act in films such as Sometimes, Kootathil Oruthan, and Oh My Kadavule.

In 2021, Ashok forayed into the Telugu film industry with ‘Ninnila Ninnila’, a film directed by Ani. I.V. Sasi. In the same year, he made his debut in Malayalam with the Priyadarshan-directed film ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’. Ashok will be next seen in ‘Blue Star’, a movie directed by Dhinakaran Sivalingam in which he is cast opposite his wife Keerthi.

The other upcoming project is  ‘Sabhanayakan’, a film by debutante director CS Karthikeyan where Megha Akash, Karthika Muralidharan, and Chandini Chowdary are paired opposite the actor.

Apart from films, Ashok has also acted in web series such as ‘Time Enna Boss’ streamed on Amazon Prime, and ‘Edhiri: Karuna’ on Netflix. On television, he has appeared in shows such as Neeya Naana, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 2, and Spot Light. Ashok has also been featured in Pranav Giridharan’s music video ‘Maayam Seidhai Poove’.
