In January 2021, Banita was mired in controversy as she tested positive for Covid-19 and refused to get treated in a government facility. Later, the actress, in her social media post clarified the reason for not being willing to be isolated at Beleghata Government Hospital.

According to the actress, she had tested negative for Covid-19 and it was a false positive test. Thus when Banita was informed that she would be quarantined with two COVID-19-positive patients, the actress requested to be self-isolated in a private facility as she was waiting for the next test.

The turning point in Banita’s career was appearing in a Vodafone advertisement. The ad went viral and clocked 1 million hits. Renowned film director Shoojit Sircar came across that ad and cast her in Wrigley’s advertisement, which touched 40 million views. 

When Banita was in her second year of college, she got a chance to act in a Hindi movie directed by Shoojit. Thus, in 2018, she acted in her debut film ‘October’ opposite Varun Dhawan.

Banita played the character of Shiuli Iyer and received a Filmfare Award Nomination for Best Female Debut. She was also named ‘The Face to Watch Out For’ by Vogue India for her performance in the maiden film. The following year, she acted in the Tamil film ‘Adithya Varma’ directed by Gireeshaaya, and ‘Eternal Beauty’, an English film directed by Craig Roberts.
