Location

Dawki Town is located on the road borders between India and Bangladesh in the West Jaintia Hills District in the state of Meghalaya, India. The Umngot river, which can be seen from here, is also located in the Jaintia hills. Dawki is only 2 kilometers from the Bangladeshi border and is located approximately 95 kilometers from Shillong.

Climatic Conditions

Dawki is a popular travel destination all year round due to its pleasant weather. In Dawki, the highest temperature can reach 32 degrees Celsius, while the lowest is 8 degrees Celsius.

Winter Season:

This season, from November to March, has a temperature range between 20 – 25 degrees Celsius, making the weather pleasant. This is the best time to explore Dawki. It is advisable for you to pack some woolen clothes when visiting during this season.

Summer Season:

From month of March, the summer season starts here and ends in the month of June having temperatures between 25 – 30 degree Celsius. The summers here are not that much hot as in the rest of the other places. This will not make it any difficult for tourists to explore Dwaki. 

Monsoon Season:

The monsoon in Dawki starts in mid-June and ends around the end of September. This season is very wet and humid due to heavy rainfall. It receives an amount of 3704mm which makes the Umngot river gets muddy water flows. So, it should be avoided to visit Dawki during the monsoon season.

How to Reach?

Dawki is a small town that is situated in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. You can reach Dawki by various modes of transportation such as airways, railways, and roadways.

By Air:

The closest airport to Dawki is the Umroi Airport in Shillong at a distance of 100 km from Dawki. But majorly operates flights to and from Kolkata. Another convenient airport for visitors is the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam which is about 200 km away but has better road connectivity and is well-linked to various cities in the country. From these airports, you can travel by road bus or taxi to the beautiful Dawki river. One can also experience something different, by booking a helicopter ride from Guwahati to Shillong, then a road trip to Dawki.

By Rail:

Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Dawki which is 170 km distance away. From this railway station, you can take buses, cabs, or private taxis and visit Dawki through Shillong by road. This journey will take approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach the mesmerizing Dawki.

By Road:

From Guwahati and Shillong which is around 200 km and 100 km away respectively, there are well-connected roads to Dawki which provide both public and private buses. You can also travel by your personal vehicle or hire a rented cab as the routes provide mesmerizing views which makes your driving experience more pleasant.
