Location

Kolli Hills also known as Kolli Malai is a small mountain range situated in Tamil Nadu which is spread over the Tiruchirapalli and Namakkal district of India. Kolli Hills is spread across an area of 280 square kilometers approximately which a height of 1300 meters.

The mountain, which houses the Arapaleeswarar temple, is a popular pilgrimage site, but motorcycle enthusiasts also frequent the region because of its high-altitude driving conditions and 70 hairpin bends.

They are a portion of the Eastern Ghats, a mountain range that largely parallels southern India’s east coast.

Climatic Conditions

Kolli Hills has a pleasant climate during the whole year and it experiences every season of the year. But, it is advised to not visit the Kolli Hills during monsoon season and the month of January as they are not apt for sightseeing and exploring this place.

Arapaleeswarar Temple

Arapaleeswar Temple has a lot of historical importance due to its rich culture from the 1st Century CE. This place was made for dedicating it to Lord Shiva and was built by a ruler named Valvil Ori.

This temple has architecture inspired by the Dravidian style. The temple is open from 6 a.m. to 12 noon and then from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This temple is one of the crucial places to visit in Kolli Malai.

Agaya Gangai Waterfalls

Agaya Gangai Waterfalls is popularly known as Kollimalai Falls for which one has to cross or trek around 1000 steps to see this beautiful waterfall which makes it a place to be visited in Kolli Hills.

This waterfall measures up to 300 feet. The Agaya Gangai Waterfalls trail stretches up to a distance of just 1 kilometer from the religious Arapaleeswarar temple. This waterfall can be visited at any time of the day with no entry charges.

Vasalurpatty Boat House

Vasalurpatty Boat House is just 5 kilometers far away from the city center. This beautiful boathouse is built on an artificial lake encircled by the lush green landscape which will give you an unforgettable experience.

Best Time To Visit Kolli Hills

The beautiful place named Kolli Malai is situated in Tamil Nadu and can be visited at any time of the year except in the month of January due to extreme cold and high temperature which makes survival and sightseeing very difficult for tourists.

Kolli Hills weather is very cool and pleasant in the rest of the months of the year i.e. from February to December. Kolli Hills has a limited number of famous tourist attractions which makes it a trip of 2 to 3 days maximum to explore these beautiful hills.

By Airways: The nearest airport for reaching the beautiful hill station named Kolli Hills is Trichy domestic airport. Trichy airport is 90 kilometers far away from the hill station. The nearby states and cities such as Madurai, Bangalore, Chennai, etc. have regular flights to this place. To get to the Kolli Hills, take a bus or a taxi from the airport.

By Roadways: Kolli Hills is a perfect place to be reached via a road trip with your partner, friends, or family. A lot of buses ply regularly from the neighboring cities as well if you don’t want to drive on your own. The buses will charge around Rs. 1000 – Rs. 1200 on average from the nearest railway station or the airport.

By Railways:  Salem Railway Station is the closest railway station to Kolli Malai just 90 Kilometers of distance. When you have reached the Salem railway station, you can take a private taxi, or a bus, or rent a bike for the road trip to Kolli Hills.

Food items like rice, honey, coffee, pepper, and some others are the most popular things to have in Kolli Hills.
